Nowadays, target recognition technique plays an important role in many fields. However, the current target image information based methods suffer from the influence of image quality and the time cost of image reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a novel imaging-free target recognition method combining ghost imaging (GI) and generative adversarial networks (GAN). Based on the mechanism of GI, a set of random speckles sequence is employed to illuminate target, and a bucket detector without resolution is utilized to receive echo signal. The bucket signal sequence formed after continuous detections is constructed into a bucket signal array, which is regarded as the sample of GAN. Then, conditional GAN is used to map bucket signal array and target category. In practical application, the speckles sequence in training step is employed to illuminate target, and the bucket signal array is input GAN for recognition. The proposed method can improve the problems caused by conventional recognition methods that based on target image information, and provide a certain turbulence-free ability. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method achieves promising performance.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have been a popular deep generative model for real-world applications. Despite many recent efforts on GANs that have been contributed, mode collapse and instability of GANs are still open problems caused by thei r adversarial optimization difficulties. In this paper, motivated by the cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm, we propose a Cooperative Dual Evolution based Generative Adversarial Network (CDE-GAN) to circumvent these drawbacks. In essence, CDE-GAN incorporates dual evolution with respect to the generator(s) and discriminators into a unified evolutionary adversarial framework to conduct effective adversarial multi-objective optimization. Thus it exploits the complementary properties and injects dual mutation diversity into training to steadily diversify the estimated density in capturing multi-modes and improve generative performance. Specifically, CDE-GAN decomposes the complex adversarial optimization problem into two subproblems (generation and discrimination), and each subproblem is solved with a separated subpopulation (E-Generator} and E-Discriminators), evolved by its own evolutionary algorithm. Additionally, we further propose a Soft Mechanism to balance the trade-off between E-Generators and E-Discriminators to conduct steady training for CDE-GAN. Extensive experiments on one synthetic dataset and three real-world benchmark image datasets demonstrate that the proposed CDE-GAN achieves a competitive and superior performance in generating good quality and diverse samples over baselines. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have the capability of synthesizing images, which have been successfully applied to medical image synthesis tasks. However, most of existing methods merely consider the global contextual information and ignore t he fine foreground structures, e.g., vessel, skeleton, which may contain diagnostic indicators for medical image analysis. Inspired by human painting procedure, which is composed of stroking and color rendering steps, we propose a Sketching-rendering Unconditional Generative Adversarial Network (SkrGAN) to introduce a sketch prior constraint to guide the medical image generation. In our SkrGAN, a sketch guidance module is utilized to generate a high quality structural sketch from random noise, then a color render mapping is used to embed the sketch-based representations and resemble the background appearances. Experimental results show that the proposed SkrGAN achieves the state-of-the-art results in synthesizing images for various image modalities, including retinal color fundus, X-Ray, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In addition, we also show that the performances of medical image segmentation method have been improved by using our synthesized images as data augmentation.

Image recognition is an important topic in computer vision and image processing, and has been mainly addressed by supervised deep learning methods, which need a large set of labeled images to achieve promising performance. However, in most cases, lab eled data are expensive or even impossible to obtain, while unlabeled data are readily available from numerous free on-line resources and have been exploited to improve the performance of deep neural networks. To better exploit the power of unlabeled data for image recognition, in this paper, we propose a semi-supervised and generative approach, namely the semi-supervised self-growing generative adversarial network (SGGAN). Label inference is a key step for the success of semi-supervised learning approaches. There are two main problems in label inference: how to measure the confidence of the unlabeled data and how to generalize the classifier. We address these two problems via the generative framework and a novel convolution-block-transformation technique, respectively. To stabilize and speed up the training process of SGGAN, we employ the metric Maximum Mean Discrepancy as the feature matching objective function and achieve larger gain than the standard semi-supervised GANs (SSGANs), narrowing the gap to the supervised methods. Experiments on several benchmark datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed SGGAN on image recognition and facial attribute recognition tasks. By using the training data with only 4% labeled facial attributes, the SGGAN approach can achieve comparable accuracy with leading supervised deep learning methods with all labeled facial attributes.

In this paper, a novel strategy of Secure Steganograpy based on Generative Adversarial Networks is proposed to generate suitable and secure covers for steganography. The proposed architecture has one generative network, and two discriminative network s. The generative network mainly evaluates the visual quality of the generated images for steganography, and the discriminative networks are utilized to assess their suitableness for information hiding. Different from the existing work which adopts Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks, we utilize another form of generative adversarial networks. By using this new form of generative adversarial networks, significant improvements are made on the convergence speed, the training stability and the image quality. Furthermore, a sophisticated steganalysis network is reconstructed for the discriminative network, and the network can better evaluate the performance of the generated images. Numerous experiments are conducted on the publicly available datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.
State-of-the-art techniques in Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have shown remarkable success in image-to-image translation from peer domain X to domain Y using paired image data. However, obtaining abundant paired data is a non-trivial and exp ensive process in the majority of applications. When there is a need to translate images across n domains, if the training is performed between every two domains, the complexity of the training will increase quadratically. Moreover, training with data from two domains only at a time cannot benefit from data of other domains, which prevents the extraction of more useful features and hinders the progress of this research area. In this work, we propose a general framework for unsupervised image-to-image translation across multiple domains, which can translate images from domain X to any a domain without requiring direct training between the two domains involved in image translation. A byproduct of the framework is the reduction of computing time and computing resources, since it needs less time than training the domains in pairs as is done in state-of-the-art works. Our proposed framework consists of a pair of encoders along with a pair of GANs which learns high-level features across different domains to generate diverse and realistic samples from. Our framework shows competing results on many image-to-image tasks compared with state-of-the-art techniques.
