Distinguishability and predictability are part of complementarity relations which apply to two different kinds of interference experiments, with and without a path-detector, respectively. In [Opt. Comm. 179, 337 (2000)], Englert and Bergou pointed out the possible connection between distinguishability, predictability, and entanglement. They even conjectured that an entanglement measure was hidden between the measures of distinguishability and predictability. Here, we push forward this conjecture. We start defining a new entropic distinguishability measure and suggesting an entanglement measure as the difference between this entropic distinguishability and an entropic predictability measure already defined in the literature. Besides, we prove that it is possible to define an entanglement monotone from the largest value of the distinguishability and the corresponding predictability, provided that the predictability satisfy the criteria already established in the literature. Thus, this result formally connects an entanglement monotone with distinguishability and the corresponding predictability, without appealing to specific measures.

Experimental detection of entanglement in superconducting qubits has been mostly limited, for more than two qubits, to witness-based and related approaches that can certify the presence of some entanglement, but not rigorously quantify how much. Here we measure the entanglement of three- and four-qubit GHZ and linear cluster states prepared on the 16-qubit IBM Rueschlikon (ibmqx5) chip, by estimating their entanglement monotones. GHZ and cluster states not only have wide application in quantum computing, but also have the convenient property of having similar state preparation circuits and fidelities, allowing for a meaningful comparison of their degree of entanglement. We also measure the decay of the monotones with time, and find in the GHZ case that they actually oscillate, which we interpret as a drift in the relative phase between the $|0rangle^{otimes n}$ and $|1rangle^{otimes n}$ components, but not an oscillation in the actual entanglement. After experimentally correcting for this drift with virtual Z rotations we find that the GHZ states appear to be considerably more robust than cluster states, exhibiting higher fidelity and entanglement at later times. Our results contribute to the quantification and understanding of the strength and robustness of multi-qubit entanglement in the noisy environment of a superconducting quantum computer.
Originated from the superposition principle in quantum mechanics, coherence has been extensively studied as a kind important resource in quantum information processing. We investigate the distinguishability of coherence-breaking channels with the hel p of quantum entanglement. By explicitly computing the minimal error probability of channel discrimination, it is shown that entanglement can enhance the capacity of coherence-breaking channel distinguishability with same types for some cases while cannot enhanced for some other cases. For coherence-breaking channels with different types, the channel distinguishability cannot be enhanced via entanglement.
We present a mathematical construction of new quantum information measures that generalize the notion of logarithmic negativity. Our approach is based on formal group theory. We shall prove that this family of generalized negativity functions, due th eir algebraic properties, is suitable for studying entanglement in many-body systems. Under mild hypotheses, the new measures are computable entanglement monotones. Also, they are composable: their evaluation over tensor products can be entirely computed in terms of the evaluations over each factor, by means of a specific group law. In principle, they might be useful to study separability and (in a future perspective) criticality of mixed states, complementing the role of Renyis entanglement entropy in the discrimination of conformal sectors for pure states.
High-dimensional quantum entanglement is currently one of the most prolific fields in quantum information processing due to its high information capacity and error resilience. A versatile method for harnessing high-dimensional entanglement has long b een hailed as an absolute necessity in the exploration of quantum science and technologies. Here we exploit Hong-Ou-Mandel interference to manipulate discrete frequency entanglement in arbitrary-dimensional Hilbert space. The generation and characterization of two-, four- and six-dimensional frequency entangled qudits are theoretically and experimentally investigated, allowing for the estimation of entanglement dimensionality in the whole state space. Additionally, our strategy can be generalized to engineer higher-dimensional entanglement in other photonic degrees of freedom. Our results may provide a more comprehensive understanding of frequency shaping and interference phenomena, and pave the way to more complex high-dimensional quantum information processing protocols.

We propose a formal resource-theoretic approach to quantify the degree of polarization of two and three-dimensional random electromagnetic fields. This endows the space of spectral polarization matrices with the orders induced by majorization or conv ex mixing that naturally recover the best-known polarization measures.
