The interplay between strong electron correlation and band topology is at the forefront of condensed matter research. As a direct consequence of correlation, magnetism enriches topological phases and also has promising functional applications. However, the influence of topology on magnetism remains unclear, and the main research effort has been limited to ground state magnetic orders. Here we report a novel order above the magnetic transition temperature in magnetic Weyl semimetal (WSM) CeAlGe. Such order shows a number of anomalies in electrical and thermal transport, and neutron scattering measurements. We attribute this order to the coupling of Weyl fermions and magnetic fluctuations originating from a three-dimensional Seiberg-Witten monopole, which qualitatively agrees well with the observations. Our work reveals a prominent role topology may play in tailoring electron correlation beyond ground state ordering, and offers a new avenue to investigate emergent electronic properties in magnetic topological materials.

Nodal semimetals are a unique platform to explore topological signatures of the unusual band structure that can manifest by accumulating a nontrivial phase in quantum oscillations. Here we report a study of the de Haasvan Alphen oscillations of the c andidate topological nodal line semimetal CaAgAs using torque measurements in magnetic fields up to 45 T. Our results are compared with calculations for a toroidal Fermi surface originating from the nodal ring. We find evidence of a nontrivial Berry phase shift only in one of the oscillatory frequencies. We interpret this as a Berry phase arising from the semi-classical electronic Landau orbit which links with the nodal ring when the magnetic field lies in the mirror (ab) plane. Furthermore, additional Berry phase accumulates while rotating the magnetic field for the second orbit in the same orientation which does not link with the nodal ring. These effects are expected in CaAgAs due to the lack of inversion symmetry. Our study experimentally demonstrates that CaAgAs is an ideal platform for exploring the physics of nodal line semimetals and our approach can be extended to other materials in which trivial and nontrivial oscillations are present.

We show that novel low temperature properties of bulk SmB6, including the sudden growth of the de Haas-van Alphen amplitude (and heat capacity) originating from the bulk at millikelvin temperatures and a previously unreported linear-in-temperature bu lk electrical conductivity at liquid helium temperatures, signal the presence of a highly asymmetric nodal semimetal. We show how the highly asymmetric nodal semimetal can be the result of a topological transformation, of the type recently considered by Shen and Fu, occurring in a Kondo lattice with dispersionless f-electron levels and Sm vacancies or other lattice defects. If supported by further data experimental, the existence of a nodal semimetal would cast considerable doubt over a neutral Fermi surface being required to explain the origin of the dHvA effect SmB6.

Charge order has emerged as a generic feature of doped cuprates, leading to important questions about its origin and its relation to superconductivity. Recent experiments on two classes of hole doped cuprates indicate a novel d-wave symmetry for the order. These were motivated by earlier spin fluctuation theoretical studies based on an expansion about hot spots in the Brillouin zone that indicated such order would be competitive with d-wave superconductivity. Here, we reexamine this problem by solving strong coupling equations in the full Brillouin zone. Our results find that bond-oriented order, as seen experimentally, is strongly suppressed, indicating that the charge order must have a different origin.
Strong spin-orbit coupling fosters exotic electronic states such as topological insulators and superconductors, but the combination of strong spin-orbit and strong electron-electron interactions is just beginning to be understood. Central to this eme rging area are the 5d transition metal iridium oxides. Here, in the pyrochlore iridate Pr2Ir2O7, we identify a nontrivial state with a single point Fermi node protected by cubic and time-reversal symmetries, using a combination of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first principles calculations. Owing to its quadratic dispersion, the unique coincidence of four degenerate states at the Fermi energy, and strong Coulomb interactions, non-Fermi liquid behavior is predicted, for which we observe some evidence. Our discovery implies that Pr2Ir2O7 is a parent state that can be manipulated to produce other strongly correlated topological phases, such as topological Mott insulator, Weyl semi-metal, and quantum spin and anomalous Hall states.
Combining strong electron correlations [1-4] and nontrivial electronic topology [5] holds great promise for discovery. So far, this regime has been rarely accessed and systematic studies are much needed to advance the field. Here we demonstrate the c ontrol of topology in a heavy fermion system. We use magnetic field to manipulate Weyl nodes in a Weyl-Kondo semimetal [6-8], up to the point where they annihilate in a topological quantum phase transition. The suppression of the topological characteristics occurs in an intact and only weakly varying strongly correlated background. Thus, topology is changing per se and not as a consequence of a change of the correlation state, for instance across a magnetic, electronic or structural phase transition. Our demonstration of genuine topology tuning in a strongly correlated electron system sets the stage for establishing global phase diagrams of topology, an approach that has proven highly valuable to explore and understand topologically trivial strongly correlated electron systems [1-4]. Our work also lays the ground for technological exploitations of controlled electronic topology.
