In the context of the INFN project PANDORA_Gr3 (Plasma for Astrophysics, Nuclear Decays Observation and Radiation for Archaeometry) and of multi-messenger astronomy, we propose a feasibility study for in-laboratory plasmas opacity investigation, in an environment resembling thermodynamic conditions typical of the ejecta of compact binary mergers containing at least a neutron star. We aim to advance knowledge on the physics of kilonovae, the electromagnetic transients following a merger, which are relevant for the study of the origin of heavy nuclei in the Universe produced via r-process nucleosynthesis. In this paper, we present preliminary results of numerical simulations for some physics cases considered in the light of a possible experimental setup for future in-laboratory opacity spectroscopic measurements.
We present the analysis of 21 bright X-ray knots in the Cassiopeia A supernova remnant from observations spanning 10 yr. We performed a comprehensive set of measurements to reveal the kinematic and thermal state of the plasma in each knot, using a co
Tidal disruption events (TDEs) occur when a star or sub-stellar object passes close enough to a galaxys supermassive black hole to be disrupted by tidal forces. NGC 4845 (d=17 Mpc) was host to a TDE, IGR J12580+0134, detected in November 2010. Its pr
We present the results of a community study aimed at exploring some of the scientific opportunities that the next generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) could open in the field of multi-messenger time-domain astronomy. We focus on compact binary mergers
Since the discovery of FRB 200428 associated with the Galactic SGR 1935+2154, magnetars are considered to power fast radio bursts (FRBs). It is widely believed that magnetars could form by core-collapse (CC) explosions and compact binary mergers, suc
We study the optical and near-infrared luminosities and detectability of radioactively powered electromagnetic transients (macronovae) occuring in the aftermath of binary neutron star and neutron star black hole mergers. We explore the transients tha
