Image denoising is one of the preliminary steps in image processing methods in which the presence of noise can deteriorate the image quality. To overcome this limitation, in this paper a improved two-stage fuzzy filter is proposed for filtering salt and pepper noise from the images. In the first-stage, the pixels in the image are categorized as good or noisy based on adaptive thresholding using type-2 fuzzy logic with exclusively two different membership functions in the filter window. In the second-stage, the noisy pixels are denoised using modified ordinary fuzzy logic in the respective filter window. The proposed filter is validated on standard images with various noise levels. The proposed filter removes the noise and preserves useful image characteristics, i.e., edges and corners at higher noise level. The performance of the proposed filter is compared with the various state-of-the-art methods in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio and computation time. To show the effectiveness of filter statistical tests, i.e., Friedman test and Bonferroni-Dunn (BD) test are also carried out which clearly ascertain that the proposed filter outperforms in comparison of various filtering approaches.

In this paper, we propose a new method for impulse noise removal from images. It uses the sparsity of images in the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) domain. The zeros in this domain give us the exact mathematical equation to reconstruct the pixels tha t are corrupted by random-value impulse noises. The proposed method can also detect and correct the corrupted pixels. Moreover, in a simpler case that salt and pepper noise is the brightest and darkest pixels in the image, we propose a simpler version of our method. In addition to the proposed method, we suggest a combination of the traditional median filter method with our method to yield better results when the percentage of the corrupted samples is high.
Type-2 fuzzy differential equations (T2FDEs) of order 1 are already known and the solution method of type-2 fuzzy initial value problems (T2FIVPs) for them was given by M. Mazandarani and M. Najariyan cite{MN} in 2014. We give the solution method of second-order T2FIVPs in this paper. Furthermore, we would like to propose new notations for type-2 fuzzy theory where symbols tend to be complicated and misleading. In particular, the Hukuhara differential symbols introduced experimentally in this paper will give us clearler meanings and expressions.
In semi-supervised fuzzy clustering, this paper extends the traditional pairwise constraint (i.e., must-link or cannot-link) to fuzzy pairwise constraint. The fuzzy pairwise constraint allows a supervisor to provide the grade of similarity or dissimi larity between the implicit fuzzy vectors of a pair of samples. This constraint can present more complicated relationship between the pair of samples and avoid eliminating the fuzzy characteristics. We propose a fuzzy discriminant clustering model (FDC) to fuse the fuzzy pairwise constraints. The nonconvex optimization problem in our FDC is solved by a modified expectation-maximization algorithm, involving to solve several indefinite quadratic programming problems (IQPPs). Further, a diagonal block coordinate decent (DBCD) algorithm is proposed for these IQPPs, whose stationary points are guaranteed, and the global solutions can be obtained under certain conditions. To suit for different applications, the FDC is extended into various metric spaces, e.g., the Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space. Experimental results on several benchmark datasets and facial expression database demonstrate the outperformance of our FDC compared with some state-of-the-art clustering models.
Many works have been done to handle the uncertainties in the data using type 1 fuzzy regression. Few type 2 fuzzy regression works used interval type 2 for indeterminate modeling using type 1 fuzzy membership. The current survey proposes a triangular type-2 fuzzy regression (TT2FR) model to ameliorate the efficiency of the model by handling the uncertainty in the data. The triangular secondary membership function is used instead of widely used interval type models. In the proposed model, vagueness in primary and secondary fuzzy sets is minimized and also, a specified x-plane of observed value is included in the same {alpha}- plane of the predicted value. Complex calculations of the type-2 fuzzy (T2F) model are simplified by reducing three dimensional type-2 fuzzy set (3DT2FS) into two dimensional interval type-2 fuzzy (2DIT2F) models. The current survey presents a new regression model of T2F by considering the more general form of T2F membership functions and thus avoids high complexity. The performance of the developed model is evaluated using the TAIEX and COVID-19 forecasting datasets. Our developed model reached the highest performance as compared to the other state-of-art techniques. Our developed method is ready to be tested with more uncertain data and has the potential to use to predict the weather and stock prediction.
In this paper, we generalize image (texture) statistical descriptors and propose algorithms that improve their efficacy. Recently, a new method showed how the popular Co-Occurrence Matrix (COM) can be modified into a fuzzy version (FCOM) which is mor e effective and robust to noise. Here, we introduce new fuz
