Graph embedding techniques, which learn low-dimensional representations of a graph, are achieving state-of-the-art performance in many graph mining tasks. Most existing embedding algorithms assign a single vector to each node, implicitly assuming that a single representation is enough to capture all characteristics of the node. However, across many domains, it is common to observe pervasively overlapping community structure, where most nodes belong to multiple communities, playing different roles depending on the contexts. Here, we propose persona2vec, a graph embedding framework that efficiently learns multiple representations of nodes based on their structural contexts. Using link prediction-based evaluation, we show that our framework is significantly faster than the existing state-of-the-art model while achieving better performance.

Aiming at better representing multivariate relationships, this paper investigates a motif dimensional framework for higher-order graph learning. The graph learning effectiveness can be improved through OFFER. The proposed framework mainly aims at acc elerating and improving higher-order graph learning results. We apply the acceleration procedure from the dimensional of network motifs. Specifically, the refined degree for nodes and edges are conducted in two stages: (1) employ motif degree of nodes to refine the adjacency matrix of the network; and (2) employ motif degree of edges to refine the transition probability matrix in the learning process. In order to assess the efficiency of the proposed framework, four popular network representation algorithms are modified and examined. By evaluating the performance of OFFER, both link prediction results and clustering results demonstrate that the graph representation learning algorithms enhanced with OFFER consistently outperform the original algorithms with higher efficiency.
Multi-role dialogue understanding comprises a wide range of diverse tasks such as question answering, act classification, dialogue summarization etc. While dialogue corpora are abundantly available, labeled data, for specific learning tasks, can be h ighly scarce and expensive. In this work, we investigate dialogue context representation learning with various types unsupervised pretraining tasks where the training objectives are given naturally according to the nature of the utterance and the structure of the multi-role conversation. Meanwhile, in order to locate essential information for dialogue summarization/extraction, the pretraining process enables external knowledge integration. The proposed fine-tuned pretraining mechanism is comprehensively evaluated via three different dialogue datasets along with a number of downstream dialogue-mining tasks. Result shows that the proposed pretraining mechanism significantly contributes to all the downstream tasks without discrimination to different encoders.
Deep learning (DL) is becoming increasingly popular in several application domains and has made several new application features involving computer vision, speech recognition and synthesis, self-driving automobiles, drug design, etc. feasible and acc urate. As a result, large scale on-premise and cloud-hosted deep learning platforms have become essential infrastructure in many organizations. These systems accept, schedule, manage and execute DL training jobs at scale. This paper describes the design, implementation and our experiences with FfDL, a DL platform used at IBM. We describe how our design balances dependability with scalability, elasticity, flexibility and efficiency. We examine FfDL qualitatively through a retrospective look at the lessons learned from building, operating, and supporting FfDL; and quantitatively through a detailed empirical evaluation of FfDL, including the overheads introduced by the platform for various deep learning models, the load and performance observed in a real case study using FfDL within our organization, the frequency of various faults observed including unanticipated faults, and experiments demonstrating the benefits of various scheduling policies. FfDL has been open-sourced.
Federated learning (FL) is a machine learning field in which researchers try to facilitate model learning process among multiparty without violating privacy protection regulations. Considerable effort has been invested in FL optimization and communic ation related researches. In this work, we introduce FedLab, a lightweight open-source framework for FL simulation. The design of FedLab focuses on FL algorithm effectiveness and communication efficiency. Also, FedLab is scalable in different deployment scenario. We hope FedLab could provide flexible API as well as reliable baseline implementations, and relieve the burden of implementing novel approaches for researchers in FL community.
Network Embedding has been widely studied to model and manage data in a variety of real-world applications. However, most existing works focus on networks with single-typed nodes or edges, with limited consideration of unbalanced distributions of nod es and edges. In real-world applications, networks usually consist of billions of various types of nodes and edges with abundant attributes. To tackle these challenges, in this paper we propose a multi-semantic metapath (MSM) model for large scale heterogeneous representation learning. Specifically, we generate multi-semantic metapath-based random walks to construct the heterogeneous neighborhood to handle the unbalanced distributions and propose a unified framework for the embedding learning. We conduct systematical evaluations for the proposed framework on two challenging datasets: Amazon and Alibaba. The results empirically demonstrate that MSM can achieve relatively significant gains over previous state-of-arts on link prediction.
