We demonstrate that a large class of one-dimensional quantum and classical exchange models can be described by the same type of graphs, namely Cayley graphs of the permutation group. Their well-studied spectral properties allow us to derive crucial information about those models of fundamental importance in both classical and quantum physics, and to completely characterize their algebraic structure. Notably, we prove that the spectral gap can be obtained in polynomial computational time, which has strong implications in the context of adiabatic quantum computing with quantum spin-chains. This quantity also characterizes the rate to stationarity of some important classical random processes such as interchange and exclusion processes. Reciprocally, we use results derived from the celebrated Bethe ansatz to obtain original mathematical results about these graphs in the unweighted case. We also discuss extensions of this unifying framework to other systems, such as asymmetric exclusion processes -- a paradigmatic model in non-equilibrium physics, or the more exotic non-Hermitian quantum systems.

We introduce an assisted exchange model (AEM) on a one dimensional periodic lattice with (K+1) different species of hard core particles, where the exchange rate depends on the pair of particles which undergo exchange and their immediate left neighbor . We show that this stochastic process has a pair factorized steady state for a broad class of exchange dynamics. We calculate exactly the particle current and spatial correlations (K+1)-species AEM using a transfer matrix formalism. Interestingly the current in AEM exhibits density dependent current reversal and negative differential mobility- both of which have been discussed elaborately by using a two species exchange model which resembles the partially asymmetric conserved lattice gas model in one dimension. Moreover, multi-species version of AEM exhibits additional features like multiple points of current reversal, and unusual response of particle current.
In this paper, we look at four generalizations of the one dimensional Aubry-Andre-Harper (AAH) model which possess mobility edges. We map out a phase diagram in terms of population imbalance, and look at the system size dependence of the steady state imbalance. We find non-monotonic behaviour of imbalance with system parameters, which contradicts the idea that the relaxation of an initial imbalance is fixed only by the ratio of number of extended states to number of localized states. We propose that there exists dimensionless parameters, which depend on the fraction of single particle localized states, single particle extended states and the mean participation ratio of these states. These ingredients fully control the imbalance in the long time limit and we present numerical evidence of this claim. Among the four models considered, three of them have interesting duality relations and their location of mobility edges are known. One of the models (next nearest neighbour coupling) has no known duality but mobility edge exists and the model has been experimentally realized. Our findings are an important step forward to understanding non-equilibrium phenomena in a family of interesting models with incommensurate potentials.
In this note we study metastability phenomena for a class of long-range Ising models in one-dimension. We prove that, under suitable general conditions, the configuration -1 is the only metastable state and we estimate the mean exit time. Moreover, w e illustrate the theory with two examples (exponentially and polynomially decaying interaction) and we show that the critical droplet can be macroscopic or mesoscopic, according to the value of the external magnetic field.
Paired states, trions and quarteting states in one-dimensional SU(4) attractive fermions are investigated via exact Bethe ansatz calculations. In particular, quantum phase transitions are identified and calculated from the quarteting phase into norma l Fermi liquid, trionic states and spin-2 paired states which belong to the universality class of linear field-dependent magnetization in the vicinity of critical points. Moreover, unified exact results for the ground state energy, chemical potentials and complete phase diagrams for isospin $S=1/2, 1, 3/2$ attractive fermions with external fields are presented. Also identified are the magnetization plateaux of $m^z=M_s/3$ and $m^z=2M_s/3$, where $M_s$ is the magnetization saturation value. The universality of finite-size corrections and collective dispersion relations provides a further test ground for low energy effective field theory.
We study single-channel continuum models of one-dimensional insulators induced by periodic potential modulations which are either terminated by a hard wall (the boundary model) or feature a single region of dislocations and/or impurity potentials bre aking translational invariance (the interface model). We investigate the universal properties of excess charges accumulated near the boundary and the interface, respectively. We find a rigorous analytic proof for the earlier observed linear dependence of the boundary charge on the phase of the periodic potential modulation as well as extend these results to the interface model. The linear dependence on the phase shows a universal value for the slope, and is intersected by discontinuous jumps by plus or minus one electron charge at the phase points where localized states enter or leave a band of extended states. Both contributions add up such that the periodicity of the excess charge in the phase over a $2pi$-cycle is maintained. While in the boundary model this property is usually associated with the bulk-boundary correspondence, in the interface model a correspondence of scattering state and localized state contributions to the total interface charge is unveiled on the basis of the so-called nearsightedness principle.
