We study the dynamics of the periodically driven Rydberg chain starting from the state with zero Rydberg excitations (vacuum state denoted by $|0rangle$) using a square pulse protocol in the high drive amplitude limit. We show, using exact diagonalization for finite system sizes ($Lle 26$), that the Floquet Hamiltonian of the system, within a range of drive frequencies which we chart out, hosts a set of quantum scars which have large overlap with the $|0rangle$ state. These scars are distinct from their counterparts having high overlap with the maximal Rydberg excitation state ($|mathbb{Z}_2rangle$); they coexist with the latter class of scars and lead to persistent coherent oscillations of the density-density correlator starting from the $|0rangle$ state. We also identify special drive frequencies at which the system undergoes perfect dynamic freezing and provide an analytic explanation for this phenomenon. Finally, we demonstrate that for a wide range of drive frequencies, the system reaches a steady state with sub-thermal values of the density-density correlator. The presence of such sub-thermal steady states, which are absent for dynamics starting from the $|mathbb{Z}_2rangle$ state, imply a weak violation of the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis in finite sized Rydberg chains distinct from that due to the scar-induced persistent oscillations reported earlier. We conjecture that in the thermodynamic limit such states may exist as pre-thermal steady states that show anomalously slow relaxation. We supplement our numerical results by deriving an analytic expression for the Floquet Hamiltonian using a Floquet perturbation theory in the high amplitude limit which provides an analytic, albeit qualitative, understanding of these phenomena at arbitrary drive frequencies. We discuss experiments which can test our theory.

A recent experiment on a 51-atom Rydberg blockaded chain observed anomalously long-lived temporal oscillations of local observables after quenching from an antiferromagnetic initial state. This coherence is surprising as the initial state should have thermalized rapidly to infinite temperature. In this article, we show that the experimental Hamiltonian exhibits non-thermal behavior across its entire many-body spectrum, with similar finite-size scaling properties as models proximate to integrable points. Moreover, we construct an explicit small local deformation of the Hamiltonian which enhances both the signatures of integrability and the coherent oscillations observed after the quench. Our results suggest that a parent proximate integrable point controls the early-to-intermediate time dynamics of the experimental system. The unconventional quench dynamics in the parent model could signal a novel class of integrable system.

We present an exact solution of an experimentally realizable and strongly interacting one-dimensional spin system which is a limiting case of a quantum Ising model with long range interaction in a transverse and longitudinal field. Pronounced quantum fluctuations lead to a strongly correlated liquid ground state. For open boundary conditions the ground state manifold consists of four degenerate sectors whose quantum numbers are determined by the orientation of the edge spins. Explicit expressions for the entanglement properties, the excitation gap as well as the exact wave functions for a couple of excited states are analytically derived and discussed.
We investigate multi-photon interband excitation processes in an optical lattice that is driven periodically in time by a modulation of the lattice depth. Assuming the system to be prepared in the lowest band, we compute the excitation spectrum numer ically. Moreover, we estimate the effective coupling parameters for resonant interband excitation processes analytically, employing degenerate perturbation theory in Floquet space. We find that below a threshold driving strength, interband excitations are suppressed exponentially with respect to the inverse driving frequency. For sufficiently low frequencies, this leads to a rather sudden onset of interband heating, once the driving strength reaches the threshold. We argue that this behavior is rather generic and should also be found in lattice systems that are driven by other forms of periodic forcing. Our results are relevant for Floquet engineering, where a lattice system is driven periodically in time in order to endow it with novel properties like the emergence of a strong artificial magnetic field or a topological band structure. In this context, interband excitation processes correspond to detrimental heating.
We study the survival of the current induced initially by applying a twist at the boundary of a chain of hard-core bosons (HCBs), subject to a periodic double $delta$-function kicks in the staggered on-site potential. We study the current flow and th e work-done on the system at the long-time limit as a function of the driving frequency. Like a recent observation in the HCB chain with single $delta$-function kick in the staggered on-site potential, here we also observe many dips in the current flow and concurrently many peaks in the work-done on the system at some specific values of the driving frequency. However, unlike the single kicked case, here we do not observe a complete disappearance of the current in the limit of a high driving frequency, which shows the absence of any dynamical localization in the double $delta$-functions kicked HCB chain. Our analytical estimations of the saturated current and the saturated work-done, defined at the limit of a large time together with a high driving frequency, match very well with the exact numerics. In the case of the very small initial current, induced by a very small twist $ u$, we observe that the saturated current is proportional to $ u$. Finally, we study the time-evolution of the half-filled HCB chain where the particles are localized in the central part of the chain. We observe that the particles spread linearly in a light-cone like region at the rate determined by the maximum value of the group velocity. Except for a very trivial case, the maximum group velocity never vanishes, and therefore we do not observe any dynamical localization in the system.

We study a class of periodically driven $d-$dimensional integrable models and show that after $n$ drive cycles with frequency $omega$, pure states with non-area-law entanglement entropy $S_n(l) sim l^{alpha(n,omega)}$ are generated, where $l$ is the linear dimension of the subsystem, and $d-1 le alpha(n,omega) le d$. We identify and analyze the crossover phenomenon from an area ($S sim l^{ d-1}$ for $dgeq1$) to a volume ($S sim l^{d}$) law and provide a criterion for their occurrence which constitutes a generalization of Hastings theorem to driven integrable systems in one dimension. We also find that $S_n$ generically decays to $S_{infty}$ as $(omega/n)^{(d+2)/2}$ for fast and $(omega/n)^{d/2}$ for slow periodic drives; these two dynamical phases are separated by a topological transition in the eigensprectrum of the Floquet Hamiltonian. This dynamical transition manifests itself in the temporal behavior of all local correlation functions and does not require a critical point crossing during the drive. We find that these dynamical phases show a rich re-entrant behavior as a function of $omega$ for $d=1$ models, and also discuss the dynamical transition for $d>1$ models. Finally, we study entanglement properties of the steady state and show that singular features (cusps and kinks in $d=1$) appear in $S_{infty}$ as a function of $omega$ whenever there is a crossing of the Floquet bands. We discuss experiments which can test our theory.
