This paper presents a colonoscope tracking method utilizing a colon shape estimation method. CT colonography is used as a less-invasive colon diagnosis method. If colonic polyps or early-stage cancers are found, they are removed in a colonoscopic examination. In the colonoscopic examination, understanding where the colonoscope running in the colon is difficult. A colonoscope navigation system is necessary to reduce overlooking of polyps. We propose a colonoscope tracking method for navigation systems. Previous colonoscope tracking methods caused large tracking errors because they do not consider deformations of the colon during colonoscope insertions. We utilize the shape estimation network (SEN), which estimates deformed colon shape during colonoscope insertions. The SEN is a neural network containing long short-term memory (LSTM) layer. To perform colon shape estimation suitable to the real clinical situation, we trained the SEN using data obtained during colonoscope operations of physicians. The proposed tracking method performs mapping of the colonoscope tip position to a position in the colon using estimation results of the SEN. We evaluated the proposed method in a phantom study. We confirmed that tracking errors of the proposed method was enough small to perform navigation in the ascending, transverse, and descending colons.

We propose an estimation method using a recurrent neural network (RNN) of the colons shape where deformation was occurred by a colonoscope insertion. Colonoscope tracking or a navigation system that navigates physician to polyp positions is needed to reduce such complications as colon perforation. Previous tracking methods caused large tracking errors at the transverse and sigmoid colons because these areas largely deform during colonoscope insertion. Colon deformation should be taken into account in tracking processes. We propose a colon deformation estimation method using RNN and obtain the colonoscope shape from electromagnetic sensors during its insertion into the colon. This method obtains positional, directional, and an insertion length from the colonoscope shape. From its shape, we also calculate the relative features that represent the positional and directional relationships between two points on a colonoscope. Long short-term memory is used to estimate the current colon shape from the past transition of the features of the colonoscope shape. We performed colon shape estimation in a phantom study and correctly estimated the colon shapes during colonoscope insertion with 12.39 (mm) estimation error.

Infrared target tracking plays an important role in both civil and military fields. The main challenges in designing a robust and high-precision tracker for infrared sequences include overlap, occlusion and appearance change. To this end, this paper proposes an infrared target tracker based on proximal robust principal component analysis method. Firstly, the observation matrix is decomposed into a sparse occlusion matrix and a low-rank target matrix, and the constraint optimization is carried out with an approaching proximal norm which is better than L1-norm. To solve this convex optimization problem, Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is employed to estimate the variables alternately. Finally, the framework of particle filter with model update strategy is exploited to locate the target. Through a series of experiments on real infrared target sequences, the effectiveness and robustness of our algorithm are proved.

Most modern Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) systems typically apply REID-based paradigm to hold a balance between computational efficiency and performance. In the past few years, numerous attempts have been made to perfect the systems. Although they pres ented favorable performance, they were constrained to track specified category. Drawing on the ideas of few shot method, we pioneered a new multi-target tracking system, named MOTS, which is based on metrics but not limited to track specific category. It contains two stages in series: In the first stage, we design the self-Adaptive-matching module to perform simple targets matching, which can complete 88.76% assignments without sacrificing performance on MOT16 training set. In the second stage, a Fine-match Network was carefully designed for unmatched targets. With a newly built TRACK-REID data-set, the Fine-match Network can perform matching of 31 category targets, even generalizes to unseen categories.
This paper proposes a space-time multi-scale attention network (STANet) to solve density map estimation, localization and tracking in dense crowds of video clips captured by drones with arbitrary crowd density, perspective, and flight altitude. Our S TANet method aggregates multi-scale feature maps in sequential frames to exploit the temporal coherency, and then predict the density maps, localize the targets, and associate them in crowds simultaneously. A coarse-to-fine process is designed to gradually apply the attention module on the aggregated multi-scale feature maps to enforce the network to exploit the discriminative space-time features for better performance. The whole network is trained in an end-to-end manner with the multi-task loss, formed by three terms, i.e., the density map loss, localization loss and association loss. The non-maximal suppression followed by the min-cost flow framework is used to generate the trajectories of targets in scenarios. Since existing crowd counting datasets merely focus on crowd counting in static cameras rather than density map estimation, counting and tracking in crowds on drones, we have collected a new large-scale drone-based dataset, DroneCrowd, formed by 112 video clips with 33,600 high resolution frames (i.e., 1920x1080) captured in 70 different scenarios. With intensive amount of effort, our dataset provides 20,800 people trajectories with 4.8 million head annotations and several video-level attributes in sequences. Extensive experiments are conducted on two challenging public datasets, i.e., Shanghaitech and UCF-QNRF, and our DroneCrowd, to demonstrate that STANet achieves favorable performance against the state-of-the-arts. Event camera is an emerging imaging sensor for capturing dynamics of moving objects as events, which motivates our work in estimating 3D human pose and shape from the event signals. Events, on the other hand, have their unique challenges: rather than capturing static body postures, the event signals are best at capturing local motions. This leads us to propose a two-stage deep learning approach, called EventHPE. The first-stage, FlowNet, is trained by unsupervised learning to infer optical flow from events. Both events and optical flow are closely related to human body dynamics, which are fed as input to the ShapeNet in the second stage, to estimate 3D human shapes. To mitigate the discrepancy between image-based flow (optical flow) and shape-based flow (vertices movement of human body shape), a novel flow coherence loss is introduced by exploiting the fact that both flows are originated from the identical human motion. An in-house event-based 3D human dataset is curated that comes with 3D pose and shape annotations, which is by far the largest one to our knowledge. Empirical evaluations on DHP19 dataset and our in-house dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
