We explore General Relativity solutions with stealth scalar hair in general quadratic higher-order scalar-tensor theories. Adopting the assumption that the scalar field has a constant kinetic term, we derive in a fully covariant manner a set of conditions under which the Euler-Lagrange equations allow General Relativity solutions as exact solutions in the presence of a general matter component minimally coupled to gravity. The scalar field possesses a nontrivial profile, which can be obtained by integrating the condition of constant kinetic term for each metric solution. We demonstrate the construction of the scalar field profile for several cases including the Kerr-Newman-de Sitter spacetime as a general black hole solution characterized by mass, charge, and angular momentum in the presence of a cosmological constant. We also show that asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes cannot support nontrivial scalar hair.

In this paper, we analyze the conditions for convergence toward General Relativity of scalar-tensor gravity theories defined by an arbitrary coupling function $alpha$ (in the Einstein frame). We show that, in general, the evolution of the scalar fiel d $(phi)$ is governed by two opposite mechanisms: an attraction mechanism which tends to drive scalar-tensor models toward Einsteins theory, and a repulsion mechanism which has the contrary effect. The attraction mechanism dominates the recent epochs of the universe evolution if, and only if, the scalar field and its derivative satisfy certain boundary conditions. Since these conditions for convergence toward general relativity depend on the particular scalar-tensor theory used to describe the universe evolution, the nucleosynthesis bounds on the present value of the coupling function, $alpha_0$, strongly differ from some theories to others. For example, in theories defined by $alpha propto midphimid$ analytical estimates lead to very stringent nucleosynthesis bounds on $alpha_0$ ($lesssim 10^{-19}$). By contrast, in scalar-tensor theories defined by $alpha propto phi$ much larger limits on $alpha_0$ ($lesssim 10^{-7}$) are found.

We analyze junction conditions at a null or non-null hypersurface $Sigma$ in a large class of scalar-tensor theories in arbitrary $n(ge 3)$ dimensions. After showing that the metric and a scalar field must be continuous at $Sigma$ as the first juncti on conditions, we derive the second junctions conditions from the Einstein equations and the equation of motion for the scalar field. Subsequently, we study $C^1$ regular matching conditions as well as vacuum conditions at $Sigma$ both in the Jordan and Einstein frames. Our result suggests that the following configurations may be possible; (i) a vacuum thin-shell at null $Sigma$ in the Einstein frame, (ii) a vacuum thin-shell at null and non-null $Sigma$ in the Jordan frame, and (iii) a non-vacuum $C^1$ regular matching at null $Sigma$ in the Jordan frame. Lastly, we clarify the relations between the conditions for $C^1$ regularity and also for vacuum $Sigma$ in the Jordan and Einstein frames.
We study spherically symmetric soliton solutions in a model with a conformally coupled scalar field as well as in full conformal gravity. We observe that a new type of limiting behaviour appears for particular choices of the self-coupling of the scal ar field, i.e. the solitons interpolate smoothly between the Anti-de Sitter vacuum and an uncharged configuration. Furthermore, within conformal gravity the qualitative approach of a limiting solution does not change when varying the charge of the scalar field - contrary to the Einstein-Hilbert case. However, it changes with the scalar self-coupling.
We show that the Plebanski-Demianski spacetime persists as a solution of General Relativity when the theory is supplemented with both, a conformally coupled scalar theory and with quadratic curvature corrections. The quadratic terms are of two types and are given by quadratic combinations of the Riemann tensor as well as a higher curvature interaction constructed with a scalar field which is conformally coupled to quadratic terms in the curvature. The later is built in terms of a four-rank tensor $S_{mu u}^{ lambdarho}$ that depends on the Riemann tensor and the scalar field, and that transforms covariantly under local Weyl rescallings. Due to the generality of the Plebanski-Demianski family, several new hairy black hole solutions are obtained in this higher curvature model. We pay particular attention to the C-metric spacetime and the stationary Taub-NUT metric, which in the hyperbolic case can be analytically extended leading to healthy, asymptotically AdS, wormhole configurations. Finally, we present a new general model for higher derivative, conformally coupled scalars, depending on an arbitrary function and that we have dubbed Conformal K-essence. We also construct spherically symmetric hairy black holes for these general models.
We derive the equations of motion for scalar metric perturbations in a particular nonsingular bouncing cosmology, where the big bang singularity is replaced by a spacetime defect with a degenerate metric. The adiabatic perturbation solution is obtain ed for nonrelativistic hydrodynamic matter. We get the same result by working with conformal coordinates. This last method is also valid for vector and tensor metric perturbations, and selected results are presented. We, finally, discuss several new effects from the linear perturbations of this nonsingular bouncing cosmology, such as across-bounce information transfer and the possible imprint on cosmological perturbations from a new phase responsible for the effective spacetime defect.
