We analyzed the thermodynamics of hypothetical exoplanets at very low Keplerian circular orbits in close vicinity of rapidly spinning supermassive black holes. Such black hole exoplanets are heated by strongly blueshifted and focused flux of the incoming cosmic microwave background (CMB) and cooled by the cold part of the local sky containing the black hole shadow. This gives rise to a temperature difference, which can drive processes far from thermodynamic equilibrium in a hypothetical life form inhabiting black hole exoplanets, similar to the case of a planet heated by the radiation of the parent star and cooled by the night sky. We found that for a narrow range of radii of very low Keplerian circular orbits and for very high spin of a supermassive black hole, the temperature regime of the black hole exoplanets corresponds to the habitable zone around standard stars. The thermodynamics of black hole exoplanets therefore, in principle, does not exclude the existence of life based on known biology. The peak of the multiblackbody spectral profile of the CMB heating the exoplanet is located in the ultraviolet band, but a significant fraction of the flux comes also in the visible and infrared bands. The minimum mass of a black hole ensuring the resistance to tidal disruption of an Earth-like exoplanet orbiting in the habitable zone is estimated to $1.63 cdot 10^8 , m_{odot}$.

It has for long been an article of faith among astrophysicists that black hole spin energy is responsible for powering the relativistic jets seen in accreting black holes. Two recent advances have strengthened the case. First, numerical general relat ivistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of accreting spinning black holes show that relativistic jets form spontaneously. In at least some cases, there is unambiguous evidence that much of the jet energy comes from the black hole, not the disk. Second, spin parameters of a number of accreting stellar-mass black holes have been measured. For ballistic jets from these systems, it is found that the radio luminosity of the jet correlates with the spin of the black hole. This suggests a causal relationship between black hole spin and jet power, presumably due to a generalized Penrose process.
We investigate a vacuum decay around a spinning seed black hole by using the Israel junction condition and conclude that the spin of black hole would suppress a vacuum decay rate compared to that for a non-spinning case, provided that the surface of vacuum bubble has its ellipsoidal shape characterized by the Kerr geometry. We also find out that in the existence of a near-extremal black hole, a false vacuum state can be more stabilized than the case of the Coleman-de Luccia solution. A few necessary assumptions to carry the calculations are discussed.

The use of modern effective field theory techniques has sparked significant developments in many areas of physics, including the study of gravity. Case in point, such techniques have recently been used to show that binary black holes can amplify inci dent, low-frequency radiation due to an interplay between absorption at the horizons and momentum transfer in the bulk of the spacetime. In this paper, we further examine the consequences of this superradiant mechanism on the dynamics of an ambient scalar field by taking the binarys long-range gravitational potential into account at the nonperturbative level. Doing so allows us to capture the formation of scalar clouds that are gravitationally bound to the binary. If the scalar is light enough, the cloud can be sufficiently diffuse (i.e., dilute while having considerable spatial extent) that it engulfs the binary as a whole. Its subsequent evolution exhibits an immensely rich phenomenology, which includes exponential growth, beating patterns, and the upscattering of bound states into scalar waves. While we find that these effects have negligible influence on the binarys inspiral in the regime wherein our approximations are valid, they offer new, analytic insight into how binary black holes interact with external perturbations. They may also provide useful, qualitative intuition for interpreting the results from future numerical simulations of these complex systems.
Dynamics in the throat of rapidly rotating Kerr black holes is governed by an emergent near-horizon conformal symmetry. The throat contains unstable circular orbits at radii extending from the ISCO down to the light ring. We show that they are relate d by conformal transformations to physical plunges and osculating trajectories. These orbits have angular momentum arbitrarily higher than that of ISCO. Using the conformal symmetry we compute analytically the radiation produced by the physical orbits. We also present a simple formula for the full self-force on such trajectories in terms of the self-force on circular orbits.
We present precision calculations of dark radiation in the form of gravitons coming from Hawking evaporation of spinning primordial black holes (PBHs) in the early Universe. Our calculation incorporates a careful treatment of extended spin distributi ons of a population of PBHs, the PBH reheating temperature, and the number of relativistic degrees of freedom. We compare our precision results with those existing in the literature, and show constraints on PBHs from current bounds on dark radiation from BBN and the CMB, as well as the projected sensitivity of CMB Stage 4 experiments. As an application, we consider the case of PBHs formed during an early matter-dominated era (EMDE). We calculate graviton production from various PBH spin distributions pertinent to EMDEs, and find that PBHs in the entire mass range up to $10^9,$g will be constrained by measurements from CMB Stage 4 experiments, assuming PBHs come to dominate the Universe prior to Hawking evaporation. We also find that for PBHs with monochromatic spins $a^*>0.81$, all PBH masses in the range $10^{-1},{rm g} < M_{rm BH} <10^9,$g will be probed by CMB Stage 4 experiments.
