Conventional chatbots focus on two-party response generation, which simplifies the real dialogue scene. In this paper, we strive toward a novel task of Response Generation on Multi-Party Chatbot (RGMPC), where the generated responses heavily rely on the interlocutors roles (e.g., speaker and addressee) and their utterances. Unfortunately, complex interactions among the interlocutors roles make it challenging to precisely capture conversational contexts and interlocutors information. Facing this challenge, we present a response generation model which incorporates Interlocutor-aware Contexts into Recurrent Encoder-Decoder frameworks (ICRED) for RGMPC. Specifically, we employ interactive representations to capture dialogue contexts for different interlocutors. Moreover, we leverage an addressee memory to enhance contextual interlocutor information for the target addressee. Finally, we construct a corpus for RGMPC based on an existing open-access dataset. Automatic and manual evaluations demonstrate that the ICRED remarkably outperforms strong baselines.

In this paper, we study the problem of employing pre-trained language models for multi-turn response selection in retrieval-based chatbots. A new model, named Speaker-Aware BERT (SA-BERT), is proposed in order to make the model aware of the speaker c hange information, which is an important and intrinsic property of multi-turn dialogues. Furthermore, a speaker-aware disentanglement strategy is proposed to tackle the entangled dialogues. This strategy selects a small number of most important utterances as the filtered context according to the speakers information in them. Finally, domain adaptation is performed to incorporate the in-domain knowledge into pre-trained language models. Experiments on five public datasets show that our proposed model outperforms the present models on all metrics by large margins and achieves new state-of-the-art performances for multi-turn response selection.
Sequence-to-Sequence (Seq2Seq) models have witnessed a notable success in generating natural conversational exchanges. Notwithstanding the syntactically well-formed responses generated by these neural network models, they are prone to be acontextual, short and generic. In this work, we introduce a Topical Hierarchical Recurrent Encoder Decoder (THRED), a novel, fully data-driven, multi-turn response generation system intended to produce contextual and topic-aware responses. Our model is built upon the basic Seq2Seq model by augmenting it with a hierarchical joint attention mechanism that incorporates topical concepts and previous interactions into the response generation. To train our model, we provide a clean and high-quality conversational dataset mined from Reddit comments. We evaluate THRED on two novel automated metrics, dubbed Semantic Similarity and Response Echo Index, as well as with human evaluation. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed model is able to generate more diverse and contextually relevant responses compared to the strong baselines.
Multi-party multi-turn dialogue comprehension brings unprecedented challenges on handling the complicated scenarios from multiple speakers and criss-crossed discourse relationship among speaker-aware utterances. Most existing methods deal with dialog ue contexts as plain texts and pay insufficient attention to the crucial speaker-aware clues. In this work, we propose an enhanced speaker-aware model with masking attention and heterogeneous graph networks to comprehensively capture discourse clues from both sides of speaker property and speaker-aware relationships. With such comprehensive speaker-aware modeling, experimental results show that our speaker-aware model helps achieves state-of-the-art performance on the benchmark dataset Molweni. Case analysis shows that our model enhances the connections between utterances and their own speakers and captures the speaker-aware discourse relations, which are critical for dialogue modeling.
Recent neural models for data-to-document generation have achieved remarkable progress in producing fluent and informative texts. However, large proportions of generated texts do not actually conform to the input data. To address this issue, we propo se a new training framework which attempts to verify the consistency between the generated texts and the input data to guide the training process. To measure the consistency, a relation extraction model is applied to check information overlaps between the input data and the generated texts. The non-differentiable consistency signal is optimized via reinforcement learning. Experimental results on a recently released challenging dataset ROTOWIRE show improvements from our framework in various metrics.
Existing multi-turn context-response matching methods mainly concentrate on obtaining multi-level and multi-dimension representations and better interactions between context utterances and response. However, in real-place conversation scenarios, whet her a response candidate is suitable not only counts on the given dialogue context but also other backgrounds, e.g., wording habits, user-specific dialogue history content. To fill the gap between these up-to-date methods and the real-world applications, we incorporate user-specific dialogue history into the response selection and propose a personalized hybrid matching network (PHMN). Our contributions are two-fold: 1) our model extracts personalized wording behaviors from user-specific dialogue history as extra matching information; 2) we perform hybrid representation learning on context-response utterances and explicitly incorporate a customized attention mechanism to extract vital information from context-response interactions so as to improve the accuracy of matching. We evaluate our model on two large datasets with user identification, i.e., personalized Ubuntu dialogue Corpus (P-Ubuntu) and personalized Weibo dataset (P-Weibo). Experimental results confirm that our method significantly outperforms several strong models by combining personalized attention, wording behaviors, and hybrid representation learning.
