Textual network embeddings aim to learn a low-dimensional representation for every node in the network so that both the structural and textual information from the networks can be well preserved in the representations. Traditionally, the structural and textual embeddings were learned by models that rarely take the mutual influences between them into account. In this paper, a deep neural architecture is proposed to effectively fuse the two kinds of informations into one representation. The novelties of the proposed architecture are manifested in the aspects of a newly defined objective function, the complementary information fusion method for structural and textual features, and the mutual gate mechanism for textual feature extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the comparing methods on all three datasets.

Recently, speaker embeddings extracted from a speaker discriminative deep neural network (DNN) yield better performance than the conventional methods such as i-vector. In most cases, the DNN speaker classifier is trained using cross entropy loss with softmax. However, this kind of loss function does not explicitly encourage inter-class separability and intra-class compactness. As a result, the embeddings are not optimal for speaker recognition tasks. In this paper, to address this issue, three different margin based losses which not only separate classes but also demand a fixed margin between classes are introduced to deep speaker embedding learning. It could be demonstrated that the margin is the key to obtain more discriminative speaker embeddings. Experiments are conducted on two public text independent tasks: VoxCeleb1 and Speaker in The Wild (SITW). The proposed approach can achieve the state-of-the-art performance, with 25% ~ 30% equal error rate (EER) reduction on both tasks when compared to strong baselines using cross entropy loss with softmax, obtaining 2.238% EER on VoxCeleb1 test set and 2.761% EER on SITW core-core test set, respectively.
Network embedding methods aim at learning low-dimensional latent representation of nodes in a network. These representations can be used as features for a wide range of tasks on graphs such as classification, clustering, link prediction, and visualiz ation. In this survey, we give an overview of network embeddings by summarizing and categorizing recent advancements in this research field. We first discuss the desirable properties of network embeddings and briefly introduce the history of network embedding algorithms. Then, we discuss network embedding methods under different scenarios, such as supervised versus unsupervised learning, learning embeddings for homogeneous networks versus for heterogeneous networks, etc. We further demonstrate the applications of network embeddings, and conclude the survey with future work in this area.
In this paper, emerging deep learning techniques are leveraged to deal with Mars visual navigation problem. Specifically, to achieve precise landing and autonomous navigation, a novel deep neural network architecture with double branches and non-recu rrent structure is designed, which can represent both global and local deep features of Martian environment images effectively. By employing this architecture, Mars rover can determine the optimal navigation policy to the target point directly from original Martian environment images. Moreover, compared with the existing state-of-the-art algorithm, the training time is reduced by 45.8%. Finally, experiment results demonstrate that the proposed deep neural network architecture achieves better performance and faster convergence than the existing ones and generalizes well to unknown environment.
Deep hedging (Buehler et al. 2019) is a versatile framework to compute the optimal hedging strategy of derivatives in incomplete markets. However, this optimal strategy is hard to train due to action dependence, that is, the appropriate hedging actio n at the next step depends on the current action. To overcome this issue, we leverage the idea of a no-transaction band strategy, which is an existing technique that gives optimal hedging strategies for European options and the exponential utility. We theoretically prove that this strategy is also optimal for a wider class of utilities and derivatives including exotics. Based on this result, we propose a no-transaction band network, a neural network architecture that facilitates fast training and precise evaluation of the optimal hedging strategy. We experimentally demonstrate that for European and lookback options, our architecture quickly attains a better hedging strategy in comparison to a standard feed-forward network.
Sentiment analysis is attracting more and more attentions and has become a very hot research topic due to its potential applications in personalized recommendation, opinion mining, etc. Most of the existing methods are based on either textual or visu al data and can not achieve satisfactory results, as it is very hard to extract sufficient information from only one single modality data. Inspired by the observation that there exists strong semantic correlation between visual and textual data in social medias, we propose an end-to-end deep fusion convolutional neural network to jointly learn textual and visual sentiment representations from training examples. The two modality information are fused together in a pooling layer and fed into fully-connected layers to predict the sentiment polarity. We evaluate the proposed approach on two widely used data sets. Results show that our method achieves promising result compared with the state-of-the-art methods which clearly demonstrate its competency.
