We study a model of two scalar fields with a hyperbolic field space and show that it reduces to a single-field Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) model in the limit where the field space becomes infinitely curved. We apply the de Sitter swampland conjecture to the two-field model and take the same limit. It is shown that in the limit, all quantities appearing in the swampland conjecture remain well-defined within the single-field DBI model. Based on a consistency argument, we then speculate that the condition derived in this way can be considered as the de Sitter swampland conjecture for a DBI scalar field by its own. The condition differs from those proposed in the literature and only the one in the present paper passes the consistency argument. As a byproduct, we also point out that one of the inequalities in the swampland conjecture for a multi-field model with linear kinetic terms should involve the lowest mass squared for scalar perturbations and that this quantity can be significantly different from the lowest eigenvalue of the Hessian of the potential in the local orthonormal frame if the field space is highly curved. Finally, we propose an extension of the de Sitter swampland conjecture to a more general scalar field with the Lagrangian of the form $P(X,varphi)$, where $X=-(partialvarphi)^2/2$.

I conjecture an upper bound on the number of possible swampland conjectures by comparing the entropy required by the conjectures themselves to the Beckenstein-Hawking entropy of the cosmological horizon. Assuming of order 100 kilobits of entropy per conjecture, this places an upper bound of order $10^{117}$ on the number of conjectures. I estimate the rate of production of swampland conjectures by the number of papers listed on INSPIRE with the word swampland in the title or abstract, which has been showing approximately exponential growth since 2014. At the current rate of growth, the entropy bound on the number of swampland conjectures can be projected to be saturated on a timescale of order $10^{-8} H_0^{-1}$. I compare the upper bound from the Swampland Conjecture Bound Conjecture (SCBC) to the estimated number of vacua in the string landscape. Employing the duality suggested by AdS/CFT between the quantum complexity of a holographic state and the volume of a Wheeler-Dewitt spacetime patch, I place a conservative lower bound of order $mathcal{N}_H > 10^{263}$ on the number of Hubble volumes in the multiverse which must be driven to heat death to fully explore the string landscape via conjectural methods.
We extend the swampland from effective field theories (EFTs) inconsistent with quantum gravity to EFTs inconsistent with quantum supergravity. This enlarges the swampland to include EFTs that become inconsistent when the gravitino is quantized. We pr opose the Gravitino Swampland Conjecture: the gravitino sound speed must be non-vanishing in all EFTs that are low energy limits of quantum supergravity. This seemingly simple statement has important consequences for both theories and observations. The conjecture is consistent with and supported by the KKLT and LVS scenarios for moduli stabilization in string theory.
Caustic singularity formations in shift-symmetric $k$-essence and Horndeski theories on a fixed Minkowski spacetime were recently argued. In $n$ dimensions, this singularity is the $(n-2)$-dimensional plane in spacetime at which second derivatives of a field diverge and the field loses single-valued description for its evolution. This does not necessarily imply a pathological behavior of the system but rather invalidates the effective description. The effective theory would thus have to be replaced by another to describe the evolution thereafter. In this paper, adopting the planar-symmetric $1$+$1$-dimensional approach employed in the original analysis, we seek all $k$-essence theories in which generic simple wave solutions are free from such caustic singularities. Contrary to the previous claim, we find that not only the standard canonical scalar but also the DBI scalar are free from caustics, as far as planar-symmetric simple wave solutions are concerned. Addition of shift-symmetric Horndeski terms does not change the conclusion.
During an accelerated expansion of the Universe, quantum fluctuations of sub-Planckian size can be stretched outside the horizon and be regarded effectively classical. Recently, it has been conjectured that such horizon-crossing of trans-Planckian mo des never happens inside theories of quantum gravity (the trans-Planckian censorship conjecture, TCC). We point out several conceptual problems of this conjecture, which is in itself formulated as a statement on the restriction of possible scenarios in a theory: by contrast a standard swampland conjecture is a restriction of possible theories in the landscape of the quantum gravity. We emphasize the concept of swampland universality, i.e. that a swampland conjecture constrains any possible scenario in a given effective field theory. In order to illustrate the problems clearly we introduce sever
The de Sitter constraint on the space of effective scalar field theories consistent with superstring theory provides a lower bound on the slope of the potential of a scalar field which dominates the evolution of the Universe, e.g., a hypothetical inf laton field. Whereas models of single scalar field inflation with a canonically normalized field do not obey this constraint, it has been claimed recently in the literature that models of warm inflation can be made compatible with it in the case of large dissipation. The de Sitter constraint is known to be derived from entropy considerations. Since warm inflation necessary involves entropy production, it becomes necessary to determine how this entropy production will affect the constraints imposed by the swampland conditions. Here, we generalize these entropy considerations to the case of warm inflation and show that the condition on the slope of the potential remains essentially unchanged and is, hence, robust even in the warm inflation dynamics. We are then able to conclude that models of warm inflation indeed can be made consistent with the swampland criteria.
