We study the role of purely external kinematical approximations in inclusive deep-inelastic lepton--hadron scattering within QCD factorization, and consider factorization with an exact treatment of the target hadron mass. We discuss how an observed phenomenological improvement obtained by accounting for target mass kinematics could be interpreted in terms of general properties of target structure, and argue that such an improvement implies a hierarchy of nonperturbative scales within the hadron.

Planck data has not found the smoking gun of non-Gaussianity that would have necessitated consideration of inflationary models beyond the simplest canonical single field scenarios. This raises the important question of what these results do imply for more general models, and in particular, multi-field inflation. In this paper we revisit four ways in which two-field scenarios can behave differently from single field models; two-field slow-roll dynamics, curvaton-type behaviour, inflation ending on an inhomogeneous hypersurface and modulated reheating. We study the constraints that Planck data puts on these classes of behaviour, focusing on the latter two which have been least studied in the recent literature. We show that these latter classes are almost equivalent, and extend their previous analyses by accounting for arbitrary evolution of the isocurvature mode which, in particular, places important limits on the Gaussian curvature of the reheating hypersurface. In general, however, we find that Planck bispectrum results only constrain certain regions of parameter space, leading us to conclude that inflation sourced by more than one scalar field remains an important possibility.

It is reported on an analysis of electroproduction of light mesons at small Bjorken-x within the handbag approach. The partonic subprocesses, meson electroproduction off quarks or gluons, are calculated within the modified perturbative approach in wh ich quark transverse momenta are retained. The soft hadronic matrix elements, generalized parton distributions, are constructed by means of double distributions. The constraints from parton distributions and sum rules are taken into account. Various moments of these generalized parton distributions are compared to recent results from lattice gauge theories.

Ultra-relativistic electromagnetic plasmas can be used for improving our understanding of the quark-gluon plasma. In the weakly coupled regime both plasmas can be described by transport theoretical and quantum field theoretical methods leading to sim ilar results for the plasma properties (dielectric tensor, dispersion relations, plasma frequency, Debye screening, transport coefficients, damping and particle production rates). In particular, future experiments with ultra-relativistic electron-positron plasmas in ultra-strong laser fields might open the possibility to test these predictions, e.g. the existence of a new fermionic plasma wave (plasmino). In the strongly coupled regime electromagnetic plasmas such as complex plasmas can be used as models or at least analogies for the quark-gluon plasma possibly produced in relativistic heavy-ion experiments. For example, pair correlation functions can be used to investigate the equation of state and cross section enhancement for parton scattering can be explained.

We discuss the process of deep-inelastic electron scattering (DIS) on the polarized deuteron with detection of a nucleon in the nuclear fragmentation region (spectator tagging). We cover (a) the general structure of the semi-inclusive DIS cross secti on on a spin-1 target; (b) the tagged structure functions in the impulse approximation, where deuteron structure is described by the $NN$ light-front wave function; (c) the extraction of free neutron structure through on-shell extrapolation in the recoil proton momentum. As an application we consider the extraction of the neutron spin structure function $g_{1n}$ through polarized electron scattering on the longitudinally polarized deuteron with proton tagging and on-shell extrapolation. Such measurements would be possible at an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) with polarized deuteron beams and forward proton detectors.
We note that off the quark mass shell the operators $(p_i+p_f)_mugamma_5$ and $isigma_{mu u}(p_i -p_f)^ ugamma_5$, both of which reduce to $-vec{sigma}cdotvec{E}$ in the non-relativistic limit, are no longer identical. In this paper we explore the ef fects of this difference in the contribution of these quark electric moments to hadronic electric moments.
