We investigate the low-temperature magnetic properties of the molecule-based chiral spin chain [Cu(pym)(H$_2$O)$_4$]SiF$_6cdot$H$_2$O (pym = pyrimidine). Electron-spin resonance, magnetometry and heat capacity measurements reveal the presence of staggered $g$ tensors, a rich low-temperature excitation spectrum, a staggered susceptibility and a spin gap that opens on the application of a magnetic field. These phenomena are reminiscent of those previously observed in non-chiral staggered chains, which are explicable within the sine-Gordon quantum-field theory. In the present case, however, although the sine-Gordon model accounts well for the form of the temperature-dependence of the heat capacity, the size of the gap and its measured linear field dependence do not fit with the sine-Gordon theory as it stands. We propose that the differences arise due to additional terms in the Hamiltonian resulting from the chiral structure of [Cu(pym)(H$_2$O)$_4$]SiF$_6cdot$H$_2$O, particularly a uniform Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling and a four-fold periodic staggered field.

Inelastic neutron scattering was used to measure the magnetic field dependence of spin excitations in the antiferromagnetic S=1/2 chain CuCl_2 2(dimethylsulfoxide) (CDC) in the presence of uniform and staggered fields. Dispersive bound states emerge from a zero-field two-spinon continuum with different finite energy minima at wave numbers q=pi and q_i approx pi (1-2<S_z>). The ratios of the field dependent excitation energies are in excellent agreement with predictions for breather and soliton solutions to the quantum sine-Gordon model, the proposed low-energy theory for S=1/2 chains in a staggered field. The data are also consistent with the predicted soliton and n=1,2 breather polarizations and scattering cross sections.
The frustrated isotropic $J_1-J_2$ model with ferromagnetic $J_1$ and anti-ferromagnetic $J_2$ interactions in presence of an axial magnetic field shows many exotic phases, such as vector chiral and multipolar phases. The existing studies of the phas e boundaries of these systems are based on the indirect evidences such as correlation functions {it etc}. In this paper, the phase boundaries of these exotic phases are calculated based on order parameters and jumps in the magnetization. In the strong magnetic field, $Z_2$ symmetry is broken, therefore, order parameter of the vector chiral phase is calculated using the broken symmetry states. Our results obtained using the modified density matrix renormalization group and exact diagonalization methods, suggest that the vector chiral phase exist only in narrow range of parameter space $J_2/J_1$.
Magnetic excitations in copper pyrimidine dinitrate, a spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic chain with alternating $g$-tensor and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions that exhibits a field-induced spin gap, are probed by means of pulsed-field electron spin reson ance spectroscopy. In particular, we report on a minimum of the gap in the vicinity of the saturation field $H_{sat}=48.5$ T associated with a transition from the sine-Gordon region (with soliton-breather elementary excitations) to a spin-polarized state (with magnon excitations). This interpretation is fully confirmed by the quantitative agreement over the entire field range of the experimental data with the DMRG investigation of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with a staggered transverse field.

Thermodynamic properties of the S=1/2 Heisenberg chain in transverse staggered magnetic field H^y_s and uniform magnetic field H^x perpendicular to the staggered field is studied by the finite-temperature density-matrix renormalization-group method. The uniform and staggered magnetization and specific heat are calculated from zero temperature to high temperatures up to T/J=4 under various strength of magnetic fields from H^y_s/J, H^x/J=0 to 2.4. The specific heat and magnetization of the effective Hamiltonian of the Yb_4As_3 are also presented, and field induced gap formation and diverging magnetic susceptibility at low temperature are shown.

We present a temperature and magnetic field dependence study of spin transport and magnetothermal corrections to the thermal conductivity in the spin S = 1/2 integrable easy-plane regime Heisenberg chain, extending an earlier analysis based on the Be the ansatz method. We critically discuss the low temperature, weak magnetic field behavior, the effect of magnetothermal corrections in the vicinity of the critical field and their role in recent thermal conductivity experiments in 1D quantum magnets.
