We give a concise introduction to (discrete) algebras arising from etale groupoids, (aka Steinberg algebras) and describe their close relationship with groupoid C*-algebras. Their connection to partial group rings via inverse semigroups also explored.

Let $G$ be a Hausdorff, etale groupoid that is minimal and topologically principal. We show that $C^*_r(G)$ is purely infinite simple if and only if all the nonzero positive elements of $C_0(G^0)$ are infinite in $C_r^*(G)$. If $G$ is a Hausdorff, am ple groupoid, then we show that $C^*_r(G)$ is purely infinite simple if and only if every nonzero projection in $C_0(G^0)$ is infinite in $C^*_r(G)$. We then show how this result applies to $k$-graph $C^*$-algebras. Finally, we investigate strongly purely infinite groupoid $C^*$-algebras.
We characterize derivations and 2-local derivations from $M_{n}(mathcal{A})$ into $M_{n}(mathcal{M})$, $n ge 2$, where $mathcal{A}$ is a unital algebra over $mathbb{C}$ and $mathcal{M}$ is a unital $mathcal{A}$-bimodule. We show that every derivation $D: M_{n}(mathcal{A}) to M_{n}(mathcal{M})$, $n ge 2,$ is the sum of an inner derivation and a derivation induced by a derivation from $mathcal{A}$ to $mathcal{M}$. We say that $mathcal{A}$ commutes with $mathcal{M}$ if $am=ma$ for every $ainmathcal{A}$ and $minmathcal{M}$. If $mathcal{A}$ commutes with $mathcal{M}$ we prove that every inner 2-local derivation $D: M_{n}(mathcal{A}) to M_{n}(mathcal{M})$, $n ge 2$, is an inner derivation. In addition, if $mathcal{A}$ is commutative and commutes with $mathcal{M}$, then every 2-local derivation $D: M_{n}(mathcal{A}) to M_{n}(mathcal{M})$, $n ge 2$, is a derivation.

Hazrat gave a K-theoretic invariant for Leavitt path algebras as graded algebras. Hazrat conjectured that this invariant classifies Leavitt path algebras up to graded isomorphism, and proved the conjecture in some cases. In this paper, we prove that a weak version of the conjecture holds for all finite essential graphs.
We introduce a new approach to the classification of operator identities, based on basic concepts from the theory of algebraic operads together with computational commutative algebra applied to determinantal ideals of matrices over polynomial rings. We consider operator identities of degree 2 (the number of variables in each term) and multiplicity 1 or 2 (the number of operators in each term), but our methods apply more generally. Given an operator identity with indeterminate coefficients, we use partial compositions to construct a matrix of consequences, and then use computer algebra to determine the values of the indeterminates for which this matrix has submaximal rank. For multiplicity 1 we obtain six identities, including the derivation identity. For multiplicity 2 we obtain eighteen identities and two parametrized families, including the left and right averaging identities, the Rota-Baxter identity, the Nijenhuis identity, and some new identities which deserve further study.
A Leavitt labelled path algebra over a commutative unital ring is associated with a labelled space, generalizing Leavitt path algebras associated with graphs and ultragraphs as well as torsion-free commutative algebras generated by idempotents. We sh ow that Leavitt labelled path algebras can be realized as partial skew group rings, Steinberg algebras, and Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. Via these realizations we obtain generalized uniqueness theorems, a description of diagonal preserving isomorphisms and we characterize simplicity of Leavitt labelled path algebras. In addition, we prove that a large class of partial skew group rings can be realized as Leavitt labelled path algebras.
