We analyze the polarization of a quantum radiation field under a de-Gaussification process. Specifically, we consider the addition of photons to a two-mode thermal state to get mixed non-Gaussian and nonclassical states which are still diagonal in the Fock basis. Stokes-operator-based degrees of polarization and two distance-type measures defined with Hilbert-Schmidt and Bures metrics are investigated. For a better insight we here introduce a polarization degree based on the relative entropy. Polarization of the thermal states is fully investigated and simple closed expressions are found for all the defined degrees. The evaluated degrees for photon-added states are then compared to the corresponding ones for the two-mode thermal states they originate from. We present interesting findings which tell us that some popular degrees of polarization are not fully consistent. However, the most solidly defined degrees, which are based on the Bures metric and relative entropy, clearly indicate an enhancement of polarization through de-Gaussification. This conclusion is supported by the behavior of the degrees of polarization of the Fock states, which are finally discussed as a limit case.

We investigate the loss of nonclassicality and non-Gaussianity of a single-mode state of the radiation field in contact with a thermal reservoir. The damped density matrix for a Fock-diagonal input is written using the Weyl expansion of the density o perator. Analysis of the evolution of the quasiprobability densities reveals the existence of two successive characteristic times of the reservoir which are sufficient to assure the positivity of the Wigner function and, respectively, of the $P$ representation. We examine the time evolution of non-Gaussianity using three recently introduced distance-type measures. They are based on the Hilbert-Schmidt metric, the relative entropy, and the Bures metric. Specifically, for an $M$-photon-added thermal state, we obtain a compact analytic formula of the time-dependent density matrix that is used to evaluate and compare the three non-Gaussianity measures. We find a good consistency of these measures on the sets of damped states. The explicit damped quasiprobability densities are shown to support our general findings regarding the loss of negativities of Wigner and $P$ functions during decoherence. Finally, we point out that Gaussification of the attenuated field mode is accompanied by a nonmonotonic evolution of the von Neumann entropy of its state conditioned by the initial value of the mean photon number.
We have studied relative-intensity fluctuations for a variable set of orthogonal elliptic polarization components of a linearly polarized laser beam traversing a resonant $^{87}$Rb vapor cell. Significant polarization squeezing at the threshold level (-3dB) required for the implementation of several continuous variables quantum protocols was observed. The extreme simplicity of the setup, based on standard polarization components, makes it particularly convenient for quantum information applications.

Hydroxyapatite synthesized by a wet chemical route was subjected to heavy Krypton ion irradiation of 4MeV at various fluences. Glancing incidence Xray diffraction results confirmed the phase purity of irradiated HA with a moderate contraction in latt ice parameters, and further indicated the irradiation induced structural disorder, evidenced by broadening of the diffraction peaks. High resolution transmission electron microscopy observations indicated that the applied Kr irradiation induced significant damage in the hydroxyapatite lattice. Specifically, cavities were observed with their diameter and density varying with the irradiation fluences, while a radiation induced crystalline to amorphous transition with increasing ion dose was identified. Raman and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further indicated the presence of irradiation induced defects. Ion release from pristine and irradiated materials following immersion in Trisbuffer showed that dissolution in vitro was enhanced by irradiation. We examined the effects of irradiation on the early stages of the mouse osteoblast like cells response. A cell counting kit 8 assay was carried out to investigate the cytotoxicity of samples, and viable cells can be observed on the irradiated materials.
It is shown that the magnitude of tensor polarization of the deuteron beam, which arises owing to the spin dichroism effect, depends appreciably on the angular width of the detector that registers the deuterons transmitted through the target. Even wh en the angular width of the detector is much smaller than the mean square angle of multiple Coulomb scattering, the beams tensor polarization depends noticeably on rescattering. When the angular width of the detector is much larger than the mean square angle of multiple Coulomb scattering (as well as than the characteristic angle of elastic nuclear scattering), tensor polarization is determined only by the total reaction cross sections for deuteron-nucleus interaction, and elastic scattering processes make no contribution to tensor polarization.
A quantum internet connects remote quantum processors that need interact and exchange quantum signals over a long distance through photonic channels. However, these quantum nodes are usually composed of quantum systems with emitted photons unsuitable for long-distance transmission. Therefore, quantum wavelength conversion to telecom is crucial for long-distance quantum networks based on optical fiber. Here we propose wavelength conversion devices for single-photon polarization qubits using continuous variable quantum teleportation, which can efficiently convert qubits between near-infrared (780/795 nm suitable for interacting with atomic quantum nodes) and telecom wavelength (1300-1500 nm suitable for long-distance transmission). The teleportation uses entangled photon sources (i.e., non-degenerate two-mode squeezed state) that can be generated by four-wave mixing in rubidium atomic vapor cells, with a diamond configuration of atomic transitions. The entangled fields can be emitted in two orthogonal polarizations with locked relative phase, making them especially suitable for interfacing with single-photon polarization qubits. Our work paves the way for the realization of long-distance quantum networks.
