We consider a quantum particle (walker) on a line who coherently chooses to jump to the left or right depending on the result of toss of a quantum coin. The lengths of the jumps are considered to be independent and identically distributed quenched Poisson random variables. We find that the spread of the walker is significantly inhibited, whereby it resides in the near-origin region, with respect to the case when there is no disorder. The scaling exponent of the quenched-averaged dispersion of the walker is sub-ballistic but super-diffusive. We also show that the features are universal to a class of sub- and super-Poissonian distributed quenched randomized jumps.

The distribution of entanglement of typical multiparty quantum states is not uniform over the range of the measure utilized for quantifying the entanglement. We intend to find the response of quenched disorder in the state parameters on this non-unif ormity for typical states. We find that the typical entanglement, quenched averaged over the disorder, is taken farther away from uniformity, as quantified by decreased standard deviation, in comparison to the clean case. The feature is seemingly generic, as we see it for Gaussian and non-Gaussian disorder distributions, for varying strengths of the disorder, and for disorder insertions in one and several state parameters. The non-Gaussian distributions considered are uniform and Cauchy-Lorentz. Two- and three-qubit pure state Haar-uniform generations are considered for the typical state productions. In this paper, we consider the quantum walk on $mathbb{Z}$ with attachment of one-length path periodically. This small modification to $mathbb{Z}$ provides localization of the quantum walk. The eigenspace causing this localization is generated by fin ite length round trip paths. We find that the localization is due to the eigenvalues of an underlying random walk. Moreover we find that the transience of the underlying random walk provides a slow down of the pseudo velocity of the induced quantum walk and a different limit distribution from the Konno distribution.
The phenomenon of localization usually happens due to the existence of disorder in a medium. Nevertheless, certain quantum systems allow dynamical localization solely due to the nature of internal interactions. We study a discrete time quantum walker which exhibits disorder free localization. The quantum walker moves on a one-dimensional lattice and interacts with on-site spins by coherently rotating them around a given axis at each step. Since the spins do not have dynamics of their own, the system poses the local spin components along the rotation axis as an extensive number of conserved moments. When the interaction is weak, the spread of the walker shows subdiffusive behaviour having downscaled ballistic tails in the evolving probability distribution at intermediate time scales. However, as the interaction gets stronger the walker gets exponentially localized in the complete absence of disorder in both lattice and initial state. Using a matrix-product-state ansatz, we investigate the relaxation and entanglement dynamics of the on-site spins due to their coupling with the quantum walker. Surprisingly, we find that even in the delocalized regime, entanglement growth and relaxation occur slowly unlike marjority of the other models displaying a localization transition.
A new model of quantum random walks is introduced, on lattices as well as on finite graphs. These quantum random walks take into account the behavior of open quantum systems. They are the exact quantum analogues of classical Markov chains. We explore the quantum trajectory point of view on these quantum random walks, that is, we show that measuring the position of the particle after each time- step gives rise to a classical Markov chain, on the lattice times the state space of the particle. This quantum trajectory is a simulation of the master equation of the quantum random walk. The physical pertinence of such quantum random walks and the way they can be concretely realized is discussed. Differences and connections with the already well-known quantum random walks, such as the Hadamard random walk, are established.
We investigate the impact of decoherence and static disorder on the dynamics of quantum particles moving in a periodic lattice. Our experiment relies on the photonic implementation of a one-dimensional quantum walk. The pure quantum evolution is char acterized by a ballistic spread of a photons wave packet along 28 steps. By applying controlled time-dependent operations we simulate three different environmental influences on the system, resulting in a fast ballistic spread, a diffusive classical walk and the first Anderson localization in a discrete quantum walk architecture.
