In this contribution, we investigated the spin coherence of high-mobility dense two-dimensional electron gases confined in multilayer systems. The dynamics of optically-induced spin polarization was experimentally studied employing the time-resolved Kerr rotation and resonant spin amplification techniques. For both the double and triple quantum wells doped beyond the metal-insulator transition, where the spin coherence is greatly suppressed, we found remarkably long spin lifetimes limited by the Dyakonov-Perel mechanism and spin hopping process between the donor sites as well as the spread of ensemble g-factor. The double quantum well structure yields a spin lifetime of 6.25 ns at T = 5 K while the triple quantum well shows a spin lifetime exceeding 25 ns at T = 8 K.

The electron spin coherence in n-doped and undoped, self-assembled CdSe/Zn(S,Se) quantum dots has been studied by time-resolved pump-probe Kerr rotation. Long-lived spin coherence persisting up to 13 ns after spin orientation has been found in the n- doped quantum dots, outlasting significantly the lifetimes of charge neutral and negatively charged excitons of 350 - 530 ps. The electron spin dephasing time as long as 5.6 ns has been measured in a magnetic field of 0.25 T. Hyperfine interaction of resident electrons with a nuclear spin fluctuations is suggested as the main limiting factor for the dephasing time. The efficiency of this mechanism in II-VI and III-V quantum dots is analyzed.

Nuclear-spin diffusion in double quantum wells (QWs) is examined by using dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) at a Landau level filling factor $ u=2/3$ spin phase transition (SPT). The longitudinal resistance increases during the DNP of one of the two QW (the polarization QW) by means of a large applied current and starts to decrease just after the termination of the DNP. On the other hand, the longitudinal resistance of the other QW (the detection QW) continuously increases for approximately 2h after the termination of the DNP of the polarization QW. It is therefore concluded that the nuclear spins diffuse from the polarization QW to the detection QW. The time evolution of the longitudinal resistance of the polarization QW is explained mainly by the nuclear-spin diffusion in the in-plane direction. In contrast, that of the detection QW manifests much slower nuclear diffusion in the perpendicular direction through the AlGaAs barrier.
Tunneling in a quantum coherent structure is not restricted to only nearest neighbours. Hopping between distant sites is possible via the virtual occupation of otherwise avoided intermediate states. Here we report the observation of long range transi tions in the transport through three quantum dots coupled in series. A single electron is delocalized between the left and right quantum dots while the centre one remains always empty. Superpositions are formed and both charge and spin are exchanged between the outermost dots. Detection of the process is achieved via the observation of narrow resonances, insensitive to the transport Pauli spin blockade.
Spin-orbit coupling fundamentally alters spin qubits, opening pathways to improve the scalability of quantum computers via long distance coupling mediated by electric fields, photons, or phonons. It also allows for new engineered hybrid and topologic al quantum systems. However, spin qubits with intrinsic spin-orbit coupling are not yet viable for quantum technologies due to their short ($sim1~mu$s) coherence times $T_2$, while qubits with long $T_2$ have weak spin-orbit coupling making qubit coupling short-ranged and challenging for scale-up. Here we show that an intrinsic spin-orbit coupled generalised spin with total angular momentum $J=tfrac{3}{2}$, which is defined by holes bound to boron dopant atoms in strained $^{28}mathrm{Si}$, has $T_2$ rivalling the electron spins of donors and quantum dots in $^{28}mathrm{Si}$. Using pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance, we obtain $0.9~mathrm{ms}$ Hahn-echo and $9~mathrm{ms}$ dynamical decoupling $T_2$ times, where strain plays a key role to reduce spin-lattice relaxation and the longitudinal electric coupling responsible for decoherence induced by electric field noise. Our analysis shows that transverse electric dipole can be exploited for electric manipulation and qubit coupling while maintaining a weak longitudinal coupling, a feature of $J=tfrac{3}{2}$ atomic systems with a strain engineered quadrupole degree of freedom. These results establish single-atom hole spins in silicon with quantised total angular momentum, not spin, as a highly coherent platform with tuneable intrinsic spin-orbit coupling advantageous to build artificial quantum systems and couple qubits over long distances.
Nuclear spin coherence and relaxation dynamics of all constituent isotopes of an n-doped CdTe/(Cd,Mg)Te quantum well structure are studied employing optically detected nuclear magnetic resonance. Using time-resolved pump-probe Faraday ellipticity, we generate and detect the coherent spin dynamics of the resident electrons. The photogenerated electron spin polarization is transferred into the nuclear spin system, which becomes polarized and acts back on the electron spins as the Overhauser field. Under the influence of resonant radio frequency pulses, we trace the coherent spin dynamics of the nuclear isotopes $^{111}$Cd, $^{113}$Cd, and $^{125}$Te. We measure nuclear Rabi oscillations, the inhomogeneous dephasing time $T_2^*$, the spin coherence time $T_2$, and the longitudinal relaxation time $T_1$. Furthermore, we investigate the influence of the laser excitation and the corresponding electron spin polarization on the nuclear spin relaxation time and find a weak extension of this time induced by interaction with the electron spins.
