We have investigated the microwave non-reciprocity for a non-centrosymmetric antiferromagnet Ba$_2$MnGe$_2$O$_7$. The magnon modes expected by the conventional spin wave theory for staggered antiferromagnets are certainly observed. The magnitudes of exchange interaction and magnetic anisotropy are obtained by the comparison with the theory. The microwave non-reciprocity is identified for one of these mode. The relative magnitude of microwave non-reciprocity can be explained with use of spin wave theory and Kubo formula.

We measured the temperature dependences of the static magnetization and the spin excitation in a square-lattice multiferroics Ba$_2$MnGe$_2$O$_7$. An anisotropy gap of the observed low energy mode is scaled by electric polarization rather than a powe r of sublattice moment. Spin nematic interaction in effective spin Hamiltonian, which is equivalent to interaction of electric polarization, is responsible for the easy-axis anisotropy. The nontrivial behavior of the anisotropy gap can be rationalized as change of the hybridized $d$-$p$ orbital with temperature, leading to the temperature dependence of the spin nematic interaction.
The XY-pyrochlore antiferromagnet ETO is studied by heat capacity measurements and electron spin resonance spectroscopy performed on single crystal samples. The magnetic phase diagrams are established for two directions of applied field, $Hparallel [ 100]$ and $Hparallel [111]$. In the magnetically ordered phase observed below $T_N=1.2$ K, the magnetic excitation spectrum consists of a Goldstone mode acquiring an isotropic gap in an applied field, and another mode with a gap softening in the vicinity of a field-induced phase transition. This second-order transition takes place at a critical field $H_c$ above which the magnetization process is accompanied by a canting of the magnetic moments off their local easy-planes. The specific heat curves for $Hparallel [100]$ ($Hgg H_c$) are well described by a model presuming a single dispersionless excitation mode with the energy gap obtained from the spectroscopic measurements.
The lattice dynamics of Ba$_2$CuGe$_2$O$_7$, a compound which develops Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) helical magnetism below $T_N$ = 3.2 K, has been studied by measuring the infrared reflectivity of a single crystal with the radiation polarized both in t he $ab$ plane and along the $c$ axis of its tetragonal cell, from 7 K to 300 K. In this compound, where the unit cell has no inversion symmetry, fourteen $E$ phonon modes of the $ab$ plane, out of the eighteen predicted, and all the ten $B_2$ modes of the $c$ axis, have been observed. They have been assigned to the atomic motions by a comparison with shell-model calculations, which provided vibrational frequencies in good agreement with the experiment, while most calculated intensities turned to be much lower than the experimental values. This discrepancy has been tentatively explained by assuming strong electron-phonon interactions, a hypothesis supported by the failure of the $f$- sum rule if restricted to the phonon region. Indeed, we observe a remarkable increase in the oscillator strengths at $T$s low but higher than $T_N$, which suggests that the dielectric constant of Ba$_2$CuGe$_2$O$_7$ may increase at those temperatures.
We report the magnetization ($chi$, $M$), specific heat ($C_{text{P}}$), and neutron powder diffraction results on a quasi-two-dimensional $S$ = 2 square lattice antiferromagnet Ba$_2$FeSi$_2$O$_7$ consisting of FeO$_4$ tetragons with a large compres sive distortion (27%). Despite of the quasi-two-dimensional lattice structure, both $chi$ and $C_{text{P}}$ present three dimensional magnetic long-range order below the Neel temperature $T_{text{N}}$ = 5.2 K. Neutron diffraction data shows a collinear $Q_{m}$ = (1,0,0.5) antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure with the in-plane ordered magnetic moment suppressed by 26% below $T_{text{N}}$. Both the AFM structure and the suppressed moments are well explained by the Monte Carlo simulation with a large single-ion ab-plane anisotropy $D$ = 1.4 meV and a rather small in-plane Heisenberg exchange $J_{text{intra}}$ = 0.15 meV. The characteristic two dimensional spin fluctuations can be recognized in the magnetic entropy release and diffuse scattering above $T_{text{N}}$. This new quasi-2D magnetic system also displays unusual non-monotonic dependence of the $T_{text{N}}$ as a function of magnetic field $H$.
We present a novel hydrated layered manganate MgMn$_3$O$_7$$cdot$3H$_2$O as a maple-leaf-lattice (MLL) antiferromagnet candidate. The MLL is obtained by regularly depleting 1/7 of the lattice points from a triangular lattice so that the magnetic conn ectivity $z = 5$ and is thus intermediately frustrated between the triangular ($z = 6$) and kagome ($z = 4$) lattices. In MgMn$_3$O$_7$$cdot$3H$_2$O, the Mn$^{4+}$ ions, carrying Heisenberg spin 3/2, form a regular MLL lattice in the quasi-two-dimensional structure. Magnetization and heat capacity measurements using a hydrothermally-prepared powder sample reveal successive antiferromagnetic transitions at 5 and 15 K. A high-field magnetization curve up to 60 T at 1.3 K exhibits a multi-step plateau-like anomaly. We discuss the unique frustration of the MLL antiferromagnet in which the chiraldegree of freedom may play an important role.
