Quantifying the uncertainty of wind energy potential from climate models is a very time-consuming task and requires a considerable amount of computational resources. A statistical model trained on a small set of runs can act as a stochastic approximation of the original climate model, and be used to assess the uncertainty considerably faster than by resorting to the original climate model for additional runs. While Gaussian models have been widely employed as means to approximate climate simulations, the Gaussianity assumption is not suitable for winds at policy-relevant time scales, i.e., sub-annual. We propose a trans-Gaussian model for monthly wind speed that relies on an autoregressive structure with Tukey $g$-and-$h$ transformation, a flexible new class that can separately model skewness and tail behavior. This temporal structure is integrated into a multi-step spectral framework that is able to account for global nonstationarities across land/ocean boundaries, as well as across mountain ranges. Inference can be achieved by balancing memory storage and distributed computation for a data set of 220 million points. Once fitted with as few as five runs, the statistical model can generate surrogates fast and efficiently on a simple laptop, and provide uncertainty assessments very close to those obtained from all the available climate simulations (forty) on a monthly scale.

Wind has the potential to make a significant contribution to future energy resources. Locating the sources of this renewable energy on a global scale is however extremely challenging, given the difficulty to store very large data sets generated by mo dern computer models. We propose a statistical model that aims at reproducing the data-generating mechanism of an ensemble of runs via a Stochastic Generator (SG) of global annual wind data. We introduce an evolutionary spectrum approach with spatially varying parameters based on large-scale geographical descriptors such as altitude to better account for different regimes across the Earths orography. We consider a multi-step conditional likelihood approach to estimate the parameters that explicitly accounts for nonstationary features while also balancing memory storage and distributed computation. We apply the proposed model to more than 18 million points of yearly global wind speed. The proposed SG requires orders of magnitude less storage for generating surrogate ensemble members from wind than does creating additional wind fields from the climate model, even if an effective lossy data compression algorithm is applied to the simulation output.
In this paper, we present a controller synthesis approach for wind turbine generators (WTG) and energy storage systems with metric temporal logic (MTL) specifications, with provable probabilistic guarantees in the stochastic environment of wind power generation. The MTL specifications are requirements for the grid frequency deviations, WTG rotor speed variations and the power flow constraints at different lines. We present the stochastic control bisimulation function, which bounds the divergence of the trajectories of a switched stochastic control system and the switched nominal control system in a probabilistic fashion. We first design a feedforward controller by solving an optimization problem for the nominal trajectory of the deterministic control system with robustness against initial state variations and stochastic uncertainties. Then we generate a feedback control law from the data of the simulated trajectories. We implement our control method on both a four-bus system and a nine-bus system, and test the effectiveness of the method with a generation loss disturbance. We also test the advantage of the feedback controller over the feedforward controller when unexpected disturbance occurs.
A globally correct potential energy surface (PES) for the hp molecular ion is presented. The Born-Oppenheimer (BO) ai grid points of Pavanello et. al. [textit{J. Chem. Phys.} {bf 136}, 184303 (2012)] are refitted as BOPES75K, which reproduces the ene rgies below dissociation with a root mean square deviation of 0.05~cm; points between dissociation and 75,000 cm are reproduced with the average accuracy of a few wavenumbers. The new PES75K+ potential combines BOPES75K with adiabatic, relativistic and quantum electrodynamics (QED) surfaces to provide the most accurate representation of the hp global potential to date, overcoming the limitations on previous high accuracy H$_3^+$ PESs near and above dissociation. PES75K+ can be used to provide predictions of bound rovibrational energy levels with an accuracy of approaching 0.1~cm. Calculation of rovibrational energy levels within PES75K+ suggests that the non-adiabatic correction remains a limiting factor. The PES is also constructed to give the correct asymptotic limit making it suitable for use in studies of the H$^+$,+,H$_2$ prototypical chemical reaction. An improved dissociation energy for H$_3^+$ is derived as $D_0,=,$35,076,$pm,2,$cm$^{-1}$.
Autoregressive models have been widely used in unsupervised text style transfer. Despite their success, these models still suffer from the content preservation problem that they usually ignore part of the source sentence and generate some irrelevant words with strong styles. In this paper, we propose a Non-Autoregressive generator for unsupervised text Style Transfer (NAST), which alleviates the problem from two aspects. First, we observe that most words in the transferred sentence can be aligned with related words in the source sentence, so we explicitly model word alignments to suppress irrelevant words. Second, existing models trained with the cycle loss align sentences in two stylistic text spaces, which lacks fine-grained control at the word level. The proposed non-autoregressive generator focuses on the connections between aligned words, which learns the word-level transfer between styles. For experiments, we integrate the proposed generator into two base models and evaluate them on two style transfer tasks. The results show that NAST can significantly improve the overall performance and provide explainable word alignments. Moreover, the non-autoregressive generator achieves over 10x speedups at inference. Our codes are available at https://github.com/thu-coai/NAST.
A simple C++ class structure for construction of a Monte Carlo event generators which can produce unweighted events within relativistic phase space is presented. The generator is self-adapting to the provided matrix element and acceptance cuts. The p rogram is designed specially for exclusive processes and includes, as an example of such an application, implementation of the model for exclusive production of meson pairs $pp rightarrow p M^+M^- p $ in high energy proton-proton collisions.
