We explore possible observable signatures of $alpha$ clustering of light nuclei in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions involving ${}^{7,9}$Be, ${}^{12}$C, and ${}^{16}$O. The clustering leads to specific spatial correlations of the nucleon distributions in the ground state, which are manifest in the earliest stage of the ultra-high energy reaction. The formed initial state of the fireball is sensitive to these correlations, and the effect influences, after the collective evolution of the system, the hadron production in the final stage. Specifically, we study effects on the harmonic flow in collisions of light clustered nuclei with a heavy target (${}^{208}$Pb), showing that measures of the elliptic flow are sensitive to clusterization in ${}^{7,9}$Be, whereas triangular flow is sensitive to clusterization in ${}^{12}$C and ${}^{16}$O. Specific predictions are made for model collisions at the CERN SPS energies. In another exploratory development we also examine the proton-beryllium collisions, where the $3/2^-$ ground state of ${}^{7,9}$Be nucleus is polarized by an external magnetic field. Clusterization leads to multiplicity distributions of participant nucleons which depend on the orientation of the polarization with respect to the collision axis, as well as on the magnetic number of the state. The obtained effects on multiplicities reach a factor of a few for collisions with a large number of participant nucleons.

Estimates for elliptic flow in collisions of polarized light nuclei with spin $jge1$ with a heavy nucleus are presented. In such collisions the azimuthal symmetry is broken via polarization of the wave function of the light nucleus, resulting in nonz ero one-body elliptic flow coefficient evaluated relative to the polarization axis. Our estimates involve experimentally well known features of light nuclei, such as their quadrupole moment and the charge radius, yielding the one-body elliptic flow coefficient in the range from 1% for collisions with the deuteron to 5% for for collisions with $^{10}$B nucleus. Prospects of addressing the issue in the upcoming fixed-target experiment at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed.
While string models describe initial state radiation in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions well, they mainly differ in their end-point positions of the strings in spatial rapidity. We present a generic model where wounded constituents are amended with strings whose both end-point positions fluctuate and analyze semi-analytically various scenarios of string-end-point fluctuations. In particular we constrain the different cases to experimental data on rapidity spectra from collisions at $sqrt{s_{rm NN}}=200$~GeV, and explore their respective two-body correlations, which allows to partially discriminate the possible solutions.
We review recent experimental and theoretical progress in understanding the microscopic details of clustering in light nuclei. We discuss recent experimental results on $alpha$-conjugate systems, molecular structures in neutron-rich nuclei, and const raints for ab initio theory. We then examine nuclear clustering in a wide range of theoretical methods, including the resonating group and generator coordinate methods, antisymmetrized molecular dynamics, Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Ropke wave function and container model, no-core shell model methods, continuum quantum Monte Carlo, and lattice effective field theory.
Predictions are made for elliptic flow in collisions of polarized deuterons with a heavy nucleus. It is shown that the eccentricity of the initial fireball, evaluated with respect to the deuteron polarization axis perpendicular to the beam direction, has a substantial magnitude for collisions of highest multiplicity. Within the Glauber approach we obtain $sim 7%$ for the deuteron states with spin projection 0, and $sim -3 %$ for spin projection $pm 1$. We propose to measure the elliptic flow coefficient as the second order harmonic coefficient in the azimuthal distribution of produced charged hadrons with respect to the fixed polarization axis. Collective expansion yields a value of the order of $1%$ for this quantity, as compared to zero in the absence of polarization and/or collectivity. Such a vivid rotational symmetry breaking could be measured with the current experimental accuracy of the relativistic heavy-ion experiments. The effect has a fundamental significance for understanding the nature of dynamics in small systems, as its experimental confirmation would prove the presence of the shape-flow transmutation mechanism, typical of hydrodynamic expansion or rescattering in the later stages of the fireball evolution.

The proton-proton momentum correlation function is constructed in three-body photo-disintegration channels from $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets in the quasi-deuteron regime within the framework of an extended quantum molecular dynamics model. Using the formula of Lednicky and Lyuboshitz (LL) for the momentum correlation function, we obtain a proton-proton momentum correlation function for the specific three-body photon-disintegration channels of $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets, which are assumed to have different initial geometric structures, and extract their respective emission source sizes for the proton-proton pair. The results demonstrate that constructing a proton-proton momentum correlation is feasible in photo-nuclear reactions, and it is sensitive to the initial nuclear structure. For future experimental studies investigating the $alpha$-clustering structures of light nuclei, the present work can be used to shed light on the performance and correlation function analysis of ($gamma$,pp) or (e,$e$pp) reactions.
