The Abbes diffraction limit restricts the resolution of an optical imaging and lithography system. Coherent Rabi oscillation is shown to be able to overcome the diffraction limit in both optical and atom lithography. In previous studies, semiclassical theory is applied where the driving field is treated as a classical light and quantum fluctuation is neglected. Here, we show that the quantum fluctuation may reduce the visibility of the superresolution pattern. However, by squeezing the photon number fluctuation we are able to significantly increase its visibility.

We investigate the presence of spin- and planar- squeezing in generalized superpositions of atomic (or spin) coherent states (ACS). Spin-squeezing has been shown to be a useful tool in determining the presence of entanglement in multipartite systems, such as collections of two-level atoms, as well as being an indication of reduced projection noise and sub-shot-noise limited phase uncertainty in Ramsey spectroscopy, suitable for measuring phases $phisim 0$. On the other hand, planar-squeezed states display reduced projection noise in two directions simultaneously and have been shown to lead to enhanced metrological precision in measuring phases without the need for explicit prior knowledge of the phase value. In this paper, we show that the generalized superposition state can be parametrized to display both spin-squeezing along all orthogonal axes and planar-squeezing along all orthogonal planes for all values of $J>1/2$. We close with an application of the maximally spin- and planar-squeezed states to quantum metrology.
We study the generalized Youngs double-slit interference for the beam produced in the spontaneously parametric down-conversion (SPDC). We find that the sub-wavelength lithography can occur macroscopically in both the two-photon intensity measurement and the single-photon spatial intensity correlation measurement. We show the visibility and the strength of the interference fringe related to the SPDC interaction. It may provide a strong quantum lithography with a moderate visibility in practical application.
A completely depolarising quantum channel always outputs a fully mixed state and thus cannot transmit any information. In a recent Letter [D. Ebler et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 120502 (2018)], it was however shown that if a quantum state passes thro ugh two such channels in a quantum superposition of different orders - a setup known as the quantum switch - then information can nevertheless be transmitted through the channels. Here, we show that a similar effect can be obtained when one coherently controls between sending a target system through one of two identical depolarising channels. Whereas it is tempting to attribute this effect in the quantum switch to the indefinite causal order between the channels, causal indefiniteness plays no role in this new scenario. This raises questions about its role in the corresponding effect in the quantum switch. We study this new scenario in detail and we see that, when quantum channels are controlled coherently, information about their specific implementation is accessible in the output state of the joint control-target system. This allows two different implementations of what is usually considered to be the same channel to therefore be differentiated. More generally, we find that to completely describe the action of a coherently controlled quantum channel, one needs to specify not only a description of the channel (e.g., in terms of Kraus operators), but an additional transformation matrix depending on its implementation.
Quadrature squeezing of light is investigated in a hybrid atom-optomechanical system comprising a cloud of two-level atoms and a movable mirror mediated by a single-mode cavity field. When the system is at high temperatures with quadrature fluctuatio ns of light much above the standard quantum limit (SQL), excitation counting on the collective atomic state can effectively reduce the light noise close to the SQL. When the system is at low temperatures, considerable squeezing of light below the SQL is found at steady state. The squeezing is enhanced by simply increasing the atom-light coupling strength with the laser power optimized close to the unstable regime, and further noise reduction is achieved by decreasing various losses in the system. The presence of atoms and excitation counting on the atoms lessen the limitation of thermal noise, and the squeezing can be achieved at environment temperature of the order K. The nonclassicality of the light, embodied by the negative distributions of the Wigner function, is also studied by making non-Gaussian measurements on the atoms. It is shown that with feasible parameters excitation counting on the atoms is effective in inducing strongly optical nonclassicality.
In quantum information processing, knowledge of the noise in the system is crucial for high-precision manipulation and tomography of coherent quantum operations. Existing strategies for identifying this noise require the use of additional quantum dev ices or control pulses. We present a noise-identification method directly based on the systems non-Markovian response of an ensemble measurement to the noise. The noise spectrum is identified by reversing the response relationship in the frequency domain. For illustration, the method is applied to superconducting charge qubits, but it is equally applicable to any type of qubits. We find that the identification strategy recovers the well-known Fermis golden rule under the lowest-order perturbation approximation, which corresponds to the Markovian limit when the measurement time is much longer than the noise correlation time. Beyond such approximation, it is possible to further improve the precision at the so-called optimal point by incorporating the transient response data in the non-Markovian regime. This method is verified with experimental data from coherent oscillations in a superconducting charge qubit.
