We carried out inelastic neutron scattering experiments on a buckled honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet Ba$_{2}$NiTeO$_{6}$ exhibiting a stripe structure at a low temperature. Magnetic excitations are observed in the energy range of $hbar omega lesssim 10$ meV having an anisotropy gap of 2 meV at 2 K. We perform spin-wave calculations to identify the spin model. The obtained microscopic parameters are consistent with the location of the stripe structure in the classical phase diagram. Furthermore, the Weiss temperature independently estimated from a bulk magnetic susceptibility is consistent with the microscopic parameters. The results reveal that a competition between the NN and NNN interactions that together with a relatively large single ion magnetic anisotropy stabilize the stripe magnetic structure.

Polarized and unpolarized neutron inelastic scattering has been used to measure the spin excitations in the spin-charge-ordered stripe phase of La5/3Sr1/3NiO4. At high energies, sharp magnetic modes are observed characteristic of a static stripe latt ice. The energy spectrum is described well by a linear spin wave model with intra- and inter-stripe exchange interactions between neighbouring Ni spins given by J = 15 +/- 1.5 meV and J = 7.5 +/- 1.5 meV respectively. A pronounced broadening of the magnetic fluctuations in a band between 10 meV and 25 meV is suggestive of coupling to collective motions of the stripe domain walls.
High-frequency ESR results on the S=1/2 Heisenberg hexagonal antiferromagnet InCu2/3V1/3O3 are reported. This compound appears to be a rare model substance for the honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet with very weak interlayer couplings. The high-temper ature magnetic susceptibility can be interpreted by the S=1/2 honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet, and it shows a magnetic-order-like anomaly at TN=38 K. Although, the resonance field of our high-frequency ESR shows the typical behavior of the antiferromagnetic resonance, the linewidth of our high-frequency ESR continues to increase below TN, while it tends to decrease as the temperature in a conventional three-dimensional antiferromagnet decreases. In general, a honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet is expected to show a simple antiferromagnetic order similar to that of a square lattice antiferromagnet theoretically because both antiferromagnets are bipartite lattices. However, we suggest that the observed anomalous spin dynamics below TN is the peculiar feature of the honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet that is not observed in the square lattice antiferromagnet.
We study effects of nonmagnetic impurities in a spin-1/2 frustrated triangular antiferromagnet with the aim of understanding the observed broadening of $^{13}$C NMR lines in the organic spin liquid material $kappa$-(ET)$_2$Cu$_2$(CN)$_3$. For high te mperatures down to $J/3$, we calculate local susceptibility near a nonmagnetic impurity and near a grain boundary for the nearest neighbor Heisenberg model in high temperature series expansion. We find that the local susceptibility decays to the uniform one in few lattice spacings, and for a low density of impurities we would not be able to explain the line broadening present in the experiments already at elevated temperatures. At low temperatures, we assume a gapless spin liquid with a Fermi surface of spinons. We calculate the local susceptibility in the mean field and also go beyond the mean field by Gutzwiller projection. The zero temperature local susceptibility decays as a power law and oscillates at $2 k_F$. As in the high temperature analysis we find that a low density of impurities is not able to explain the observed broadening of the lines. We are thus led to conclude that there is more disorder in the system. We find that a large density of point-like disorder gives broadening that is consistent with the experiment down to about 5K, but that below this temperature additional mechanism is likely needed.
Frustrated bilayer quantum magnets have attracted attention as flat-band spin systems with unconventional thermodynamic properties. We study the low-temperature properties of a frustrated honeycomb-lattice bilayer spin-$frac{1}{2}$ isotropic ($XXX$) Heisenberg antiferromagnet in a magnetic field by means of an effective low-energy theory using exact diagonalizations and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Our main focus is on the magnetization curve and the temperature dependence of the specific heat indicating a finite-temperature phase transition in high magnetic fields.

Recently, there have been contrary claims of Kitaev spin-liquid behaviour and ordered behavior in the honeycomb compound Ag$_3$LiIr$_2$O$_6$ based on various experimental signatures. Our investigations on this system reveal a low-temperature ordered state with persistent dynamics down to the lowest temperatures. Magnetic order is confirmed by clear oscillations in the muon spin relaxation ($mu$SR) time spectrum below 9 K till 52 mK. Coincidentally in $^7$Li nuclear magnetic resonance, a wipe-out of the signal is observed below $sim$ 10 K which again strongly indicates magnetic order in the low temperature regime. This is supported by our density functional theory calculations which show an appreciable Heisenberg exchange term in the spin Hamiltonian that favors magnetic ordering. The $^7$Li shift and spin-lattice relaxation rate also show anomalies at $sim$ 50 K. They are likely related to the onset of dynamic magnetic correlations, but their origin is not completely clear. Detailed analysis of our $mu$SR data is consistent with a co-existence of incommensurate Neel and striped environments. A significant and undiminished dynamical relaxation rate ($sim 5$ MHz) as seen in $mu$SR deep into the ordered phase indicates enhanced quantum fluctuations in the ordered state.
