We have established the relations between the baryon-baryon scattering phase shifts and the two-particle energy spectrum in the elongated box. We have studied the cases with both the periodic boundary condition and twisted boundary condition in the center of mass frame. The framework is also extended to the system of nonzero total momentum with periodic boundary condition in the moving frame. This will be helpful to extract the phase shifts in the continuum from lattice QCD data using asymmetric volumes.
We study baryon-baryon scattering by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the manifestly Lorentz-invariant formulation of SU(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory. We derive the corresponding diagrammatic rules paying special attention to comp
lications caused by momentum-dependent interactions and propagators of particles with non-zero spin. We define the effective potential as a sum of two-baryon irreducible contributions of time-ordered diagrams and derive a system of integral equations for the scattering amplitude, which provides a coupled-channel generalization of the Kadyshevsky equation. The obtained leading-order baryon-baryon potentials are perturbatively renormalizable, and the corresponding integral equations have unique solutions in all partial waves. We discuss the issue of additional finite subtractions required to improve the ultraviolet convergence of (finite) loop integrals on the example of nucleon-nucleon scattering in the $^3P_0$ partial wave. Assuming that corrections beyond leading order can be treated perturbatively, we obtain a fully renormalizable formalism which can be employed to study baryon-baryon scattering.
We construct a simple two-phase equation of state intended to resemble that of compressed baryon-rich matter and then introduce a gradient term in the compressional energy density to take account of fintie-range effects in non-uniform configurations.
With this model we study the interface between the two coexisting phases and obtain estimates for the associated interface tension. Subsequently, we incorporate the finite-range equation of state into ideal or viscous fluid dynamics and derive the collective dispersion relation for the mechanically unstable modes of bulk matter in the spinodal region of the thermodynamic phase diagram. Combining these results with time scales extracted from existing dynamical transport simulations, we discuss the prospects for spinodal phase separation to occur in nuclear collisions. We argue that these can be optimized by a careful tuning of the collision energy to maximize the time spent by the bulk of the system inside the mechanically unstable spinodal region of the phase diagram. Our specific numerical estimates suggest cautious optimism that this phenomenon may in fact occur, though a full dynamical simulation is needed for a detailed assessment.
We calculate the lambda-nucleon scattering phase shifts and mixing angles by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the manifestly Lorentz-invariant formulation of SU(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory. Scattering amplitudes are obtained by s
olving the corresponding coupled-channel integral equations that have a milder ultraviolet behavior compared to their non-relativistic analogs. This allows us to consider the removed cutoff limit in our leading-order calculations also in the $^3P_0$ and $^3P_1$ partial waves. We find that, in the framework we are using, at least some part of the higher-order contributions to the baryon-baryon potential in these channels needs to be treated nonperturbatively and demonstrate how this can be achieved in a way consistent with quantum field theoretical renormalization for the leading contact interactions. We compare our results with the ones of the non-relativistic approach and lattice QCD phase shifts obtained for non-physical pion masses.
We report on the recent studies of leading order baryon-baryon interactions in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. In the strangeness $S=0$ sector, one can achieve a rather good description of the Nijmegen $np$ phase shifts with angular mome
nta $Jleq 1$, particularly the $^1S_0$ and $^3P_0$ partial waves, comparable with the next-to-leading order (NLO) heavy baryon approach. In the strangeness $S=-1$ hyperon-nucleon sector, the best fit of the 36 scattering data is similar to the sophisticated phenomenological models and the NLO heavy baryon approach.
We study the scattering of a pseudoscalar meson off one ground state octet baryon in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory (BChPT) up to the next-to-next-to-leading order. The inherent power counting breaking terms are removed within extended-o
n-mass-shell scheme. We perform the first combined study of the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data in covariant BChPT and show that it can provide a reasonable description of the experimental data. In addition, we find that it is possible to fit the experimental baryon masses and the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data simultaneously at this order, thus providing a consistent check on covariant BChPT. We compare the scattering lengths of all the pertinent channels with available experimental data and those of other approaches. In addition, we have studied the leading order contributions of the virtual decuplet and found that they can improve the description of the $pi N$ phase shifts near the $Delta(1232)$ peak, while they have negligible effects on the description of the $K N$ phase shifts.
