We consider an optimal stretching problem for strictly convex domains in $mathbb{R}^d$ that are symmetric with respect to each coordinate hyperplane, where stretching refers to transformation by a diagonal matrix of determinant $1$. Specifically, we prove that the stretched convex domain which captures the most positive lattice points in the large volume limit is balanced: the $(d-1)$-dimensional measures of the intersections of the domain with each coordinate hyperplane are equal. Our results extend those of Antunes & Freitas, van den Berg, Bucur & Gittins, Ariturk & Laugesen, van den Berg & Gittins, and Gittins & Larson. The approach is motivated by the Fourier analysis techniques used to prove the classical $#{(i,j) in mathbb{Z}^2 : i^2 +j^2 le r^2 } =pi r^2 + mathcal{O}(r^{2/3})$ result for the Gauss circle problem.

We study a combinatorial problem that recently arose in the context of shape optimization: among all triangles with vertices $(0,0)$, $(x,0)$, and $(0,y)$ and fixed area, which one encloses the most lattice points from $mathbb{Z}_{>0}^2$? Moreover, d oes its shape necessarily converge to the isosceles triangle $(x=y)$ as the area becomes large? Laugesen and Liu suggested that, in contrast to similar problems, there might not be a limiting shape. We prove that the limiting set is indeed nontrivial and contains infinitely many elements. We also show that there exist `bad areas where no triangle is particularly good at capturing lattice points and show that there exists an infinite set of slopes $y/x$ such that any associated triangle captures more lattice points than any other fixed triangle for infinitely many (and arbitrarily large) areas; this set of slopes is a fractal subset of $[1/3, 3]$ and has Minkowski dimension at most $3/4$.
Iso-edge domains are a variant of the iso-Delaunay decomposition introduced by Voronoi. They were introduced by Baranovskii & Ryshkov in order to solve the covering problem in dimension $5$. In this work we revisit this decomposition and prove the following new results: $bullet$ We review the existing theory and give a general mass-formula for the iso-edge domains. $bullet$ We prove that the associated toroidal compactification of the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties is projective. $bullet$ We prove the Conway--Sloane conjecture in dimension $5$. $bullet$ We prove that the quadratic forms for which the conorms are non-negative are exactly the matroidal ones in dimension $5$.
Given a convex polyhedral surface P, we define a tailoring as excising from P a simple polygonal domain that contains one vertex v, and whose boundary can be sutured closed to a new convex polyhedron via Alexandrovs Gluing Theorem. In particular, a d igon-tailoring cuts off from P a digon containing v, a subset of P bounded by two equal-length geodesic segments that share endpoints, and can then zip closed. In the first part of this monograph, we primarily study properties of the tailoring operation on convex polyhedra. We show that P can be reshaped to any polyhedral convex surface Q a subset of conv(P) by a sequence of tailorings. This investigation uncovered previously unexplored topics, including a notion of unfolding of Q onto P--cutting up Q into pieces pasted non-overlapping onto P. In the second part of this monograph, we study vertex-merging processes on convex polyhedra (each vertex-merge being in a sense the reverse of a digon-tailoring), creating embeddings of P into enlarged surfaces. We aim to produce non-overlapping polyhedral and planar unfoldings, which led us to develop an apparently new theory of convex sets, and of minimal length enclosing polygons, on convex polyhedra. All our theorem proofs are constructive, implying polynomial-time algorithms.

The discrete Laplace operator on a triangulated polyhedral surface is related to geometric properties of the surface. This paper studies extremum problems for eigenvalues of the discrete Laplace operators. Among all triangles, an equilateral triangle has the maximal first positive eigenvalue. Among all cyclic quadrilateral, a square has the maximal first positive eigenvalue. Among all cyclic $n$-gons, a regular one has the minimal value of the sum of all nontrivial eigenvalues and the minimal value of the product of all nontrivial eigenvalues.

The notion of a valuation on convex bodies is very classical. The notion of a valuation on a class of functions was recently introduced and studied by M. Ludwig and others. We study an explicit relation between continuous valuations on convex functio ns which are invariant under adding arbitrary linear functionals, and translations invariant continuous valuations on convex bodies. More precisely, we construct a natural linear map from the former space to the latter and prove that it has dense image and infinite dimensional kernel. The proof uses the authors irreducibility theorem and few properties of the real Monge-Ampere operators due to A.D. Alexandrov and Z. Blocki. Fur- thermore we show how to use complex, quaternionic, and octonionic Monge-Ampere operators to construct more examples of continuous valuations on convex functions in an analogous way.
