We analyse the distribution of position angles of 1 million galaxies from the Hyperleda catalogue, a sample that presents the galaxies coordinates in the celestial sphere, information that allows us to look for a possible privileged direction. Our analysis involves different tests and statistical methods, from which it is possible to infer with high probability ($p$-value extremely low) that the galactic planes are not randomly oriented in the sky. Whether this is an evidence of a cosmological anisotropy or an observational bias due to local effects is something deserving further studies.

Despite its fundamental importance in cosmology, there have been very few straight-forward tests of the cosmological principle. Such tests are especially timely because of the hemispherical asymmetry in the cosmic microwave background recently observ ed by the Planck collaboration. Most tests to date looked at the redshift dependence of cosmological parameters. These are subject to large systematic effects that require modeling and bias corrections. Unlike previous tests, the tests described here compare galaxy distributions in equal volumes at the same redshift z. This allows a straight-forward test and z-dependent biases are not a problem. Using ~10^6 galaxies from the SDSS DR7 survey, I show that re- gions of space separated by ~2 Gpc have the same average galaxy correlation radii, amplitudes, and number density to within approx. 5%, which is consistent with standard model expectations.
We apply our symmetry based Power tensor technique to test conformity of PLANCK Polarization maps with statistical isotropy. On a wide range of angular scales (l=40-150), our preliminary analysis detects many statistically anisotropic multipoles in f oreground cleaned full sky PLANCK polarization maps viz., COMMANDER and NILC. We also study the effect of residual foregrounds that may still be present in the galactic plane using both common UPB77 polarization mask, as well as the individual component separation method specific polarization masks. However some of the statistically anisotropic modes still persist, albeit significantly in NILC map. We further probed the data for any coherent alignments across multipoles in several bins from the chosen multipole range.
We analyze the magnitude-redshift data of type Ia supernovae included in the Union and Union2 compilations in the framework of an anisotropic Bianchi type I cosmological model and in the presence of a dark energy fluid with anisotropic equation of st ate. We find that the amount of deviation from isotropy of the equation of state of dark energy, the skewness delta, and the present level of anisotropy of the large-scale geometry of the Universe, the actual shear Sigma_0, are constrained in the ranges -0.16 < delta < 0.12 and -0.012 < Sigma_0 < 0.012 (1sigma C.L.) by Union2 data. Supernova data are then compatible with a standard isotropic universe (delta = Sigma_0 = 0), but a large level of anisotropy, both in the geometry of the Universe and in the equation of state of dark energy, is allowed.

We have used the Union2.1 SNIa compilation to search for possible Hubble expansion anisotropies, dividing the sky in 9 solid angles containing roughly the same number of SNIa, as well as in the two Galactic hemispheres. We identified only one sky reg ion, containing 82 SNIa (~15% of total sample with $z>0.02$), that indeed appears to share a significantly different Hubble expansion than the rest of the sample. However, this behavior appears to be attributed to the joint erratic behavior of only three SNIa and not to an anisotropic expansion. We also find that the northern and southern galactic hemispheres have different cosmological parameter solutions but still not significant enough to assert the detection of a Hubble expansion anisotropy. We conclude that even a few outliers can have such an effect as to induce artificial indications of anisotropies, when the number of analysed SNIa is relatively small.
We use the cosmic shear data from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey to place constraints on $f(R)$ and {it Generalized Dilaton} models of modified gravity. This is highly complimentary to other probes since the constraints mainly come from the non-linear scales: maximal deviations with respects to the General-Relativity + $Lambda$CDM scenario occurs at $ksim1 h mbox{Mpc}^{-1}$. At these scales, it becomes necessary to account for known degeneracies with baryon feedback and massive neutrinos, hence we place constraints jointly on these three physical effects. To achieve this, we formulate these modified gravity theories within a common tomographic parameterization, we compute their impact on the clustering properties relative to a GR universe, and propagate the observed modifications into the weak lensing $xi_{pm}$ quantity. Confronted against the cosmic shear data, we reject the $f(R)$ ${ |f_{R_0}|=10^{-4}, n=1}$ model with more than 99.9% confidence interval (CI) when assuming a $Lambda$CDM dark matter only model. In the presence of baryonic feedback processes and massive neutrinos with total mass up to 0.2eV, the model is disfavoured with at least 94% CI in all different combinations studied. Constraints on the ${ |f_{R_0}|=10^{-4}, n=2}$ model are weaker, but nevertheless disfavoured with at least 89% CI. We identify several specific combinations of neutrino mass, baryon feedback and $f(R)$ or Dilaton gravity models that are excluded by the current cosmic shear data. Notably, universes with three massless neutrinos and no baryon feedback are strongly disfavoured in all modified gravity scenarios studied. These results indicate that competitive constraints may be achieved with future cosmic shear data.
