The Correlation Filter is an algorithm that trains a linear template to discriminate between images and their translations. It is well suited to object tracking because its formulation in the Fourier domain provides a fast solution, enabling the detector to be re-trained once per frame. Previous works that use the Correlation Filter, however, have adopted features that were either manually designed or trained for a different task. This work is the first to overcome this limitation by interpreting the Correlation Filter learner, which has a closed-form solution, as a differentiable layer in a deep neural network. This enables learning deep features that are tightly coupled to the Correlation Filter. Experiments illustrate that our method has the important practical benefit of allowing lightweight architectures to achieve state-of-the-art performance at high framerates.

Estimating eye-gaze from images alone is a challenging task, in large parts due to un-observable person-specific factors. Achieving high accuracy typically requires labeled data from test users which may not be attainable in real applications. We obs erve that there exists a strong relationship between what users are looking at and the appearance of the users eyes. In response to this understanding, we propose a novel dataset and accompanying method which aims to explicitly learn these semantic and temporal relationships. Our video dataset consists of time-synchronized screen recordings, user-facing camera views, and eye gaze data, which allows for new benchmarks in temporal gaze tracking as well as label-free refinement of gaze. Importantly, we demonstrate that the fusion of information from visual stimuli as well as eye images can lead towards achieving performance similar to literature-reported figures acquired through supervised personalization. Our final method yields significant performance improvements on our proposed EVE dataset, with up to a 28 percent improvement in Point-of-Gaze estimates (resulting in 2.49 degrees in angular error), paving the path towards high-accuracy screen-based eye tracking purely from webcam sensors. Most existing Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) approaches follow the Tracking-by-Detection paradigm and the data association framework where objects are firstly detected and then associated. Although deep-learning based method can noticeably improve the o bject detection performance and also provide good appearance features for cross-frame association, the framework is not completely end-to-end, and therefore the computation is huge while the performance is limited. To address the problem, we present a completely end-to-end approach that takes image-sequence/video as input and outputs directly the located and tracked objects of learned types. Specifically, with our introduced multi-object representation strategy, a global response map can be accurately generated over frames, from which the trajectory of each tracked object can be easily picked up, just like how a detector inputs an image and outputs the bounding boxes of each detected object. The proposed model is fast and accurate. Experimental results based on the MOT16 and MOT17 benchmarks show that our proposed on-line tracker achieved state-of-the-art performance on several tracking metrics.
In this work, we learn a shared encoding representation for a multi-task neural network model optimized with connectionist temporal classification (CTC) and conventional framewise cross-entropy training criteria. Our experiments show that the multi-t ask training not only tackles the complexity of optimizing CTC models such as acoustic-to-word but also results in significant improvement compared to the plain-task training with an optimal setup. Furthermore, we propose to use the encoding representation learned by the multi-task network to initialize the encoder of attention-based models. Thereby, we train a deep attention-based end-to-end model with 10 long short-term memory (LSTM) layers of encoder which produces 12.2% and 22.6% word-error-rate on Switchboard and CallHome subsets of the Hub5 2000 evaluation.
Event cameras, which are asynchronous bio-inspired vision sensors, have shown great potential in computer vision and artificial intelligence. However, the application of event cameras to object-level motion estimation or tracking is still in its infa ncy. The main idea behind this work is to propose a novel deep neural network to learn and regress a parametric object-level motion/transform model for event-based object tracking. To achieve this goal, we propose a synchronous Time-Surface with Linear Time Decay (TSLTD) representation, which effectively encodes the spatio-temporal information of asynchronous retinal events into TSLTD frames with clear motion patterns. We feed the sequence of TSLTD frames to a novel Retinal Motion Regression Network (RMRNet) to perform an end-to-end 5-DoF object motion regression. Our method is compared with state-of-the-art object tracking methods, that are based on conventional cameras or event cameras. The experimental results show the superiority of our method in handling various challenging environments such as fast motion and low illumination conditions.
This paper presented a deep reinforcement learning method named Double Deep Q-networks to design an end-to-end vision-based adaptive cruise control (ACC) system. A simulation environment of a highway scene was set up in Unity, which is a game engine that provided both physical models of vehicles and feature data for training and testing. Well-designed reward functions associated with the following distance and throttle/brake force were implemented in the reinforcement learning model for both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EV) to perform adaptive cruise control. The gap statistics and total energy consumption are evaluated for different vehicle types to explore the relationship between reward functions and powertrain characteristics. Compared with the traditional radar-based ACC systems or human-in-the-loop simulation, the proposed vision-based ACC system can generate either a better gap regulated trajectory or a smoother speed trajectory depending on the preset reward function. The proposed system can be well adaptive to different speed trajectories of the preceding vehicle and operated in real-time.
