We show that ||u*u - v*v|| leq ||u - v|| for partial isometries u and v. There is a stronger inequality if both u and v are extreme points of the unit ball of a C*-algebra, and both inequalities are sharp. If u and v are partial isometries in a C*-algebra A such that ||u - v|| < 1, then u and v are homotopic through partial isometries in A. If both u and v are extremal, then it is sufficient that ||u - v|| < 2. The constants 1 and 2 are both sharp. We also discuss the continuity points of the map which assigns to each closed range element of A the partial isometry in its canonical polar decomposition.

Gau, Wang and Wu in their LAMA2016 paper conjectured (and proved for $nleq 4$) that an $n$-by-$n$ partial isometry cannot have a circular numerical range with a non-zero center. We prove that this statement holds also for $n=5$.
We prove that every isometry between two combinatorial spaces is determined by a permutation of the canonical unit basis combined with a change of signs. As a consequence, we show that in the case of Schreier spaces, all the isometries are given by a change of signs of the elements of the basis. Our results hold for both the real and the complex cases.

Corresponding to any $(m-1)$-tuple of semi-spectral measures on the unit circle, a weighted Dirichlet-type space is introduced and studied. We prove that the operator of multiplication by the coordinate function on these weighted Dirichlet-type space s acts as an analytic $m$-isometry and satisfies a certain set of operator inequalities. Moreover, it is shown that an analytic $m$-isometry which satisfies this set of operator inequalities can be represented as an operator of multiplication by the coordinate function on a weighted Dirichlet-type space induced from an $(m-1)$-tuple of semi-spectral measures on the unit circle. This extends a result of Richter as well as of Olofsson on the class of analytic $2$-isometries. We also prove that all left invertible $m$-concave operators satisfying the aforementioned operator inequalities admit a Wold-type decomposition. This result serves as a key ingredient to our model theorem and also generalizes a result of Shimorin on a class of $3$-concave operators.

We prove that a compact quantum group with faithful Haar state which has a faithful action on a compact space must be a Kac algebra, with bounded antipode and the square of the antipode being identity. The main tool in proving this is the theory of e rgodic quantum group action on $C^*$ algebras. Using the above fact, we also formulate a definition of isometric action of a compact quantum group on a compact metric space, generalizing the definition given by Banica for finite metric spaces, and prove for certain special class of metric spaces the existence of the universal object in the category of those compact quantum groups which act isometrically and are `bigger than the classical isometry group.

In this paper, the problems of perturbation and expression for the Moore--Penrose metric generalized inverses of bounded linear operators on Banach spaces are further studied. By means of certain geometric assumptions of Banach spaces, we first give some equivalent conditions for the Moore--Penrose metric generalized inverse of perturbed operator to have the simplest expression $T^M(I+ delta TT^M)^{-1}$. Then, as an application our results, we investigate the stability of some operator equations in Banach spaces under different type perturbations.
