Top quark production in the forward region in proton-proton collisions is observed for the first time. The $W!+!b$ final state with $Wtomu u$ is reconstructed using muons with a transverse momentum, $p_{rm T}$, larger than 25 GeV in the pseudorapidity range $2.0<eta<4.5$. The $b$ jets are required to have $50 < p_{rm T} < 100$ GeV and $2.2 < eta < 4.2$, while the transverse component of the sum of the muon and $b$-jet momenta must satisfy $p_{rm T} > 20$ GeV. The results are based on data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0 and $2.0$ fb$^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV by LHCb. The inclusive top quark production cross-sections in the fiducial region are $sigma({rm top})[7rm{TeV}] = 239pm53({rm stat})pm33({rm syst})pm24({rm theory}),{rm fb}$ and $sigma({rm top})[8rm{TeV}] = 289pm43({rm stat})pm40({rm syst})pm29({rm theory}),{rm fb}$. These results, along with the observed differential yields and charge asymmetries, are in agreement with next-to-leading order Standard Model predictions.

This paper reports on the first observation of electroweak production of single top quarks by the DZero and CDF collaborations. At Fermilabs 1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collider, a few thousand events are selected from several inverse femtobarns of da ta that contain an isolated electron or muon and/or missing transverse energy, together with jets that originate from the decays of b quarks. Using sophisticated multivariate analyses to separate signal from background, the DZero collaboration measures a cross section sigma(ppbar->tb+X,tqb+X) = 3.94 +- 0.88 pb (for a top quark mass of 170 GeV) and the CDF collaboration measures a value of 2.3_0.6 -0.5 pb (for a top quark mass of 175 GeV). These values are consistent with theoretical predictions at next-to-leading order precision. Both measurements have a significance of 5.0 standard deviations, meeting the benchmark to be considered unambiguous observation.
We report on the observation of single top quark production by the D0 collaboration using a dataset of 2.3 fb^-1 collected at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. Several multivariate techniques are combined to separate the single top signal from ba ckgrounds. The measured single top cross section is 3.94+-0.88pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of signal is 2.9*10^-7, corresponding to a 5.0 standard deviation significance for the presence of signal. The lower limit at the 95% C.L. on the CKM matrix element Vtb is |Vtb|>0.78. A separate measurement of the t-channel cross section gives 3.14 +0.94 -0.80 pb.
We review the current status of the cross sections measurement of the top-quark at the LHC and at the Tevatron. Total production cross sections, studies using single top quark events and differential $rm{t}bar{rm t}$ cross sections are discussed. The associated production of top quark pairs with photons, Z and W bosons, including $rm{t}bar{rm t}$Z and $rm{t}bar{rm t}$W measurements shown for the first time at LHCP2014, are presented.

Single top-quark t-channel production is exploited for studies of top quark properties. The analyses include the measurement of the CKM matrix element, $|V_{tb}|$, search for anomalous couplings of the top quark using a Bayesian neural network analys is, measurement of single top-quark polarization which directly confirms the V-A nature of the $tWb$ production vertex, and the measurement of W-helicity fractions in the phase space sampled by a selection optimized for t-channel single top-quark production, orthogonal to the $toverline{t}$ final states used in traditional measurements of these properties. All measurements are found to be consistent with the standard model predictions.
A search for associated production of a $Z$ boson with an open charm meson is presented using a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0,mathrm{fb}^{-`}$ of proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7,TeV, collecte d by the LHCb experiment. %% Seven candidate events for associated production of a $Z$ boson with a $D^0$ meson and four candidate events for a $Z$ boson with a $D^+$ meson are observed with a combined significance of 5.1standard deviations. The production cross-sections in the forward region are measured to be $$sigma_{Zrightarrowmu^+mu^-!,D^0} = 2.50pm1.12pm0.22pb$$ $$sigma_{Zrightarrowmu^+mu^-!,D^+} = 0.44pm0.23pm0.03pb,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
