The field-induced ordering transition in the quantum spin system NiCl$_2$$cdot$4SC(NH$_2$)$_2$ is studied by means of neutron diffraction, AC magnetometry and relaxation calorimetry. The interpretation of the data is strongly influenced by a finite distribution of transition fields in the samples, which was present but disregarded in previous studies. Taking this effect into account, we find that the order-parameter critical exponent is inconsistent with the BEC universality class even at temperatures below 100 mK. All results are discussed in comparison with previous measurements and with recent similar studies of disordered Ni(Cl$_{1-x}$Br$_x$)$_2$$cdot$4SC(NH$_2$)$_2$.
Inelastic neutron scattering is used to investigate the temperature dependence of spin correlations in the 3-dimensional XY antiferromagnet Ni(Cl$_{1-x}$Br$_x$)$_2$$cdot$4SC(NH$_2$)$_2$, $ x = 0.14(1)$, tuned close to the chemical-composition-induced
$Ni Cl_2$-$4SC(NH_2)_2$ (known as DTN) is a spin-1 material with a strong single-ion anisotropy that is regarded as a new candidate for Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of spin degrees of freedom. We present a systematic study of the low-energy excit
We have measured Hall effect, magnetotransport and magnetostriction on the field induced phases of single crystalline UPt$_2$Si$_2$ in magnetic fields up to 60,T at temperatures down to 50,mK. For the magnetic field applied along the $c$ axis we obse
We have carried out high-field resistivity measurements up to 27,T in EuFe$_2$As$_2$ at $P$,=,2.5,GPa, a virtually optimal pressure for the $P$-induced superconductivity, where $T_mathrm{c}$,=,30,K. The $B_mathrm{c2}-T_mathrm{c}$ phase diagram has be
The topological property of SrRu$_2$O$_6$ and isostructural CaOs$_2$O$_6$ under various strain conditions is investigated using density functional theory. Based on an analysis of parity eigenvalues, we anticipate that a three-dimensional strong topol
