The alpha cluster states of 16C are investigated by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. It is shown that two different types of alpha cluster states exist: triangular and linear-chain states. The former has an approximate isosceles triangular configuration of alpha particles surrounded by four valence neutrons occupying sd-shell, while the latter has the linearly aligned alpha particles with two sd-shell neutrons and two pf-shell neutrons. It is found that the structure of the linear-chain state is qualitatively understood in terms of the 3/2 pi- and 1/2 sigma- molecular orbit as predicted by molecular-orbital model, but there exists non-negligible Be+alpha+2n correlation. The band-head energies of the triangular and linear-chain rotational bands are 8.0 and 15.5 MeV, and the latter is close to the He+Be threshold energy. It is also shown that the linear-chain state becomes the yrast sstate at J=10 with excitation energy 27.8 MeV owing to its very large moment-of-inertia comparable with hyperdeformation.

The coexistence of various low-lying deformed states in $^{42}$Ca and $alpha$--$^{38}$Ar correlations in those deformed states have been investigated using deformed-basis antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. Wave functions of the low-lying states are obtained via parity and angular momentum projections and the generator coordinate method (GCM). Basis wave functions of the GCM calculation are obtained via energy variations with constraints on the quadrupole deformation parameter $beta$ and the distance between $alpha$ and $^{38}$Ar clusters. The rotational band built on the $J^pi = 0_2^+$ (1.84 MeV) state as well as the $J^pi = 0_3^+$ (3.30 MeV) state are both reproduced. The coexistence of two additional $K^pi = 0^+$ rotational bands is predicted; one band is shown to be built on the $J^pi = 0_3^+$ state. Members of the ground-state band and the rotational band built on the $J^pi = 0_3^+$ state contain $alpha$--$^{38}$Ar cluster structure components.
Eigenvector continuation has recently attracted a lot attention in nuclear structure and reactions as a variational resummation tool for many-body expansions. While previous applications focused on ground-state energies, excited states can be accesse d on equal footing. This work is dedicated to a detailed understanding of the emergence of excited states from the eigenvector continuation approach. For numerical applications the one-dimensional quartic anharmonic oscillator is investigated, which represents a strongly non-perturbative quantum system where the use of standard perturbation techniques break down. We discuss how different choices for the construction of the EC manifold affect the quality of the EC resummation and investigate in detail the results from EC for excited states compared to results from a full diagonalization as a function of the basis space size.
We investigate properties of bound and resonance states in the $_{Lambda}^{9}$Be nucleus. To reveal the nature of these states, we use a three-cluster $2alpha+Lambda$ microscopic model. The model incorporates Gaussian and oscillator basis functions a nd reduces a three-cluster Schr{o}dinger equation to a two-body like many-channel problem with the two-cluster subsystems ($_{Lambda}^{5}$He and $^8$Be) being in a bound or a pseudo-bound state. Influence of the cluster polarization on the energy and widths of resonance states in $_{Lambda}^{9}$Be and on elastic and inelastic $_{Lambda}^{5}$He+$alpha$ scattering is analyzed.
Previous studies have shown that the ground state of systems of nucleons composed by an equal number of protons and neutrons interacting via proton-neutron pairing forces can be described accurately by a condensate of $alpha$-like quartets. Here we e xtend these studies to the low-lowing excited states of these systems and show that these states can be accurately described by breaking a quartet from the ground state condensate and replacing it with an excited quartet. This approach, which is analogous to the one-broken-pair approximation employed for like-particle pairing, is analysed for various isovector and isovector-isoscalar pairing
The electromagnetic transitions to various low-lying excited states of 16O, 48Ca and 208Pb are calculated within a model which considers the short-range correlations. In general the effects of the correlations are small and do not explain the required quenching to describe the data.
