We investigate a binary mixture of bosonic atoms loaded into a state-dependent honeycomb lattice. For this system, the emergence of a so-called twisted-superfluid ground state was experimentally observed in [Soltan-Panahi et al., Nat. Phys. 8, 71 (2012)]. Theoretically, the origin of this effect is not understood. We perform numerical simulations of an extended Bose-Hubbard model adapted to the experimental parameters employing the Multi-Layer Multi-Configuration Time-Dependent Hartree method for Bosons. Our results confirm the overall applicability of mean-field theory within the relevant parameter range. Beyond this, we provide a detailed analysis of correlation effects correcting the mean-field result. These have the potential to induce asymmetries in single shot time-of-flight measurements, but we find no indication of the patterns characteristic of the twisted superfluid. We comment on the restrictions of our model and possible extensions.
Recent experiments with ultracold lanthanide atoms which are characterized by a large magnetic moment have revealed the crucial importance of beyond-mean-field corrections in understanding the dynamics of the gas. We study how the presence of an exte
We present a detailed beyond-mean-field analysis of a weakly interacting Bose gas in the crossover from three to low dimensions. We find an analytical solution for the energy and provide a clear qualitative picture of the crossover in the case of a b
We analyze the cross-over of a homogeneous one-dimensional Bose gas from the ideal gas into the dense quasi-condensate phase. We review a number of mean-field theories, perturbative or self-consistent, and provide accurate evaluations of equation of
We report on the formation of heteronuclear quantum droplets in an attractive bosonic mixture of 41K and 87Rb. We observe long-lived self-bound states, both in free space and in an optical waveguide. In the latter case, the dynamics under the effect
The recent experimental advancement to realise ultracold gases scattering off an eight-fold optical potential [Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 110404 (2019)] heralds the beginning of a new technique to study the properties of quasicrystalline structures. Quasi
