We demonstrate a polarization-managed 8-dimensional modulation format that is time domain coded to reduce inter-channel nonlinearity. Simulation results show a 2.33 dB improvement in maximum net system margin (NSM) relative to polarization multiplexed (PM)-BPSK, and a 1.0 dB improvement relative to time interleaved return to zero (RZ)-PM-BPSK, for a five channel fill propagating on 20x80 km spans of 90% compensated ELEAF. In contrast to the other modulations considered, the new 8-dimentional (8D) format has negligible sensitivity to the polarization states of the neighboring channels. Laboratory results from High-density WDM (HD-WDM) propagation experiments on a 5000 km dispersion-managed link show a 1 dB improvement in net system margin relative to PM-BPSK.
Coherent population trapping (CPT) is extensively studied for future vapor cell clocks of high frequency stability. In the constructive polarization modulation CPT scheme, a bichromatic laser field with polarization and phase synchronously modulated
We report on the experimental generation of spatially multiplexed picosecond 40-GHz pulse trains at telecommunication wavelengths by simultaneous intra-modal multiple four wave mixing and intermodal cross-phase modulation in km-long bi-modal and 6-LP
We describe the experimental implementation of a superluminal ({it i.e.} faster than light {it in vacuo}) polarization current distribution that both oscillates and undergoes centripetal acceleration. Theoretical treatments lead one to expect that th
We demonstrate a vapor cell atomic clock prototype based on continuous-wave (CW) interrogation and double-modulation coherent population trapping (DM-CPT) technique. The DM-CPT technique uses a synchronous modulation of polarization and relative phas
We report on the experimental and numerical observation of polarization modulation instability (PMI) in a nonlinear fiber Kerr resonator. This phenomenon is phased-matched through the relative phase detuning between the intracavity fields associated
