Spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$ and Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ with distorted triangular-lattice structures are studied by means of electron spin resonance spectroscopy in magnetic fields up to the saturation field and above. In the magnetically saturated phase, quantum fluctuations are fully suppressed, and the spin dynamics is defined by ordinary magnons. This allows us to accurately describe the magnetic excitation spectra in both materials and, using the harmonic spin-wave theory, to determine their exchange parameters. The viability of the proposed method was proven by applying it to Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$, yielding $J/k_B=4.7(2)$ K, $J/k_B=1.42(7)$ K [$J/Jsimeq 0.30$] and revealing good agreement with inelastic neutron-scattering results. For the isostructural Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$, we obtain $J/k_B=14.9(7)$ K, $J/k_B=6.1(3)$ K, [$J/Jsimeq 0.41$], providing exact and conclusive information on the exchange couplings in this frustrated spin system.
We present high-field electron spin resonance (ESR) studies of the honeycomb-lattice material $alpha$-RuCl$_3$, a prime candidate to exhibit Kitaev physics. Two modes of antiferromagnetic resonance were detected in the zigzag ordered phase, with magn
Exotic spin-multipolar ordering in spin transition metal insulators has so far eluded unambiguous experimental observation. A less studied, but perhaps more feasible fingerprint of multipole character emerges in the excitation spectrum in the form of
An electron spin resonance (ESR) study of the heavy fermion compound YbRh2Si2 for fields up to ~ 8 T reveals a strongly anisotropic signal below the single ion Kondo temperature T_K ~ 25 K. A remarkable similarity between the T-dependence of the ESR
Despite extensive research on the skutterudites for the last decade, their electric crystalline field ground state is still a matter of controversy. We show that Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) measurements can determine the full set of crystal field p
By combining accurate heat capacity and X-ray resonant scattering results we have resolved the long standing question regarding the nature of the quadrupolar ordered phases in UPd_3. The order parameter of the highest temperature quadrupolar phase ha
