Forces in the systems of two opposite sign and three identical charges coupled to the dynamical scalar field of the signum-Gordon model are investigated. Three-body force is present, and the exact formula for it is found. Flipping the sign of one of the two charges changes not only the sign but also the magnitude of the force. Both effects are due to nonlinearity of the field equation.

New experimental data on 2+ energies of 136,138Sn confirms the trend of lower 2+ excitation energies of even-even tin isotopes with N > 82 compared to those with N< 82. However, none of the theoretical predictions using both realistic and empirical i nteractions can reproduce experimental data on excitation energies as well as the transition probabilities (B(E2; 6+ -> 4+)) of these nuclei, simultaneously, apart from one whose matrix elements have been changed empirically to produce mixed seniority states by weakening pairing. We have shown that the experimental result also shows good agreement with the theory in which three body forces have been included in a realistic interaction. The new theoretical results on transition probabilities have been discussed to identify the experimental quantities which will clearly distinguish between different views.
Force between static point particles coupled to a classical ultra-massive scalar field is calculated. The field potential is proportional to the modulus of the field. It turns out that the force exactly vanishes when the distance between the particle s exceeds certain finite value. Moreover, each isolated particle is surrounded by a compact cloud of the scalar field that completely screens its scalar charge.

The present thesis aims at studying the properties of symmetric nuclear and pure neutron matter from a Greens functions point of view, including two-body and three-body chiral forces. An extended self-consistent Greens function formalism is defined t o consistently incorporate three-body forces in the many-body calculations. The effect of three-nucleon interactions is included via the construction of a dressed two-body density dependent force. This is obtained performing an average of the leading order three-body terms in the chiral effective field theory expansion. The dressed force corresponds to the use of an in-medium propagator in the average which takes into account the correlations characterizing the system at each stage of the many-body calculation. The total energy of the system is obtained by means of a modified Galitskii-Migdal-Koltun sumrule to correctly account for the effect of three-body forces. Microscopic as well as macroscopic properties of symmetric nuclear and pure neutron matter are analyzed in detailed.
We explore the constraints on the three-nucleon force (3NF) of chiral effective field theory ($chi$EFT) that are provided by bound-state observables in the $A=3$ and $A=4$ sectors. Our statistically rigorous analysis incorporates experimental error, computational method uncertainty, and the uncertainty due to truncation of the $chi$EFT expansion at next-to-next-to-leading order. A consistent solution for the ${}^3$H binding energy, the ${}^4$He binding energy and radius, and the ${}^3$H $beta$-decay rate can only be obtained if $chi$EFT truncation errors are included in the analysis. All of these except the $beta$-decay rate give essentially degenerate constraints on the 3NF low-energy constants, so it is crucial for estimating these parameters. We use eigenvector continuation for fast and accurate emulation of No-Core Shell Model calculations of the considered few-nucleon observables. This facilitates sampling of the posterior probability distribution, allowing us to also determine the distributions of the hyperparameters that quantify the truncation error. We find a $chi$EFT expansion parameter of $Q=0.33 pm 0.06$ for these observables.
High intensity proton linacs and storage rings are central for the development of advanced neutron sources, extending the intensity frontier in high energy physics, as drivers for the production of pions in neutrino factories or muon colliders, and f or the transmutation of radioactive waste. Such high intensity beams are not attainable using conventional linear lattices. It has been shown in the single particle limit that integrable nonlinear lattices permit much larger tune spreads than conventional linear lattices, which would mitigate many of the space charge restrictions that limit intensity. In this paper, we present numerical studies of space charge effects on a trial nonlinear lattice with intense bunches. We observe that these nonlinear lattices and their accompanying tune spreads strongly mitigate halo formation using a result from the particle-core model known to cause halo formation in linear lattices.
