A double quantum dot device, connected to two channels that only see each other through interdot Coulomb repulsion, is analyzed using the numerical renormalization group technique. By using a two-impurity Anderson model, and parameter values obtained from experiment [S. Amasha {it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 110}, 046604 (2013)], it is shown that, by applying a moderate magnetic field, and adjusting the gate potential of each quantum dot, opposing spin polarizations are created in each channel. Furthermore, through a well defined change in the gate potentials, the polarizations can be reversed. This polarization effect is clearly associated to a spin-orbital Kondo state having a Kondo peak that originates from spatially separated parts of the device. This fact opens the exciting possibility of experimentally probing the internal structure of an SU(2) Kondo state.

We study the persistent current circulating along a mesoscopic ring with a dot side-coupled to it when threaded by a magnetic field. A cluster including the dot and its vicinity is diagonalized and embedded into the rest of the system. The result is numerically exact. We show that a ring of any size can be in the Kondo regime, although for small sizes it depends upon the magnetic flux. In the Kondo regime, the current can be a smooth or a strongly dependent function of the gate potential according to the structure of occupation of the highest energetic electrons of the system.

The spatial length of the Kondo screening is still a controversial issue related to Kondo physics. While renormalization group and Bethe Anzats solutions have provided detailed information about the thermodynamics of magnetic impurities, they are ins ufficient to study the effect on the surrounding electrons, i.e., the spatial range of the correlations created by the Kondo effect between the localized magnetic moment and the conduction electrons. The objective of this work is to present a quantitative way of measuring the extension of these correlations by studying their effect directly on the local density of states (LDOS) at arbitrary distances from the impurity. The numerical techniques used, the Embedded Cluster Approximation, the Finite U Slave Bosons, and Numerical Renormalization Group, calculate the Green functions in real space. With this information, one can calculate how the local density of states away from the impurity is modified by its presence, below and above the Kondo temperature, and then estimate the range of the disturbances in the non-interacting Fermi sea due to the Kondo effect, and how it changes with the Kondo temperature $T_{rm K}$. The results obtained agree with results obtained through spin-spin correlations, showing that the LDOS captures the phenomenology of the Kondo cloud as well. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that the LDOS is used to estimate the extension of the Kondo cloud.
We examine the low energy behavior of a double quantum dot in a regime where spin and pseudospin excitations are degenerate. The individual quantum dots are described by Anderson impurity models with an on-site interaction $U$ which are capacitively coupled by an interdot interaction $U_{12}<U$. The low energy response functions are expressed in terms of renormalized parameters, which can be deduced from an analysis of the fixed point in a numerical renormalization group calculation. At the point where the spin and pseudospin degrees of freedom become degenerate, the free quasiparticle excitations have a phase shift of $pi/4$ and a 4-fold degeneracy. We find, however, when the quasiparticle interactions are included, that the low energy effective model has SU(4) symmetry only in the special case $U_{12}=U$ unless both $U$ and $U_{12}$ are greater than $D$, the half-bandwidth of the conduction electron bath. We show that the gate voltage dependence of the temperature dependent differential conductance observed in recent experiments can be described by a quasiparticle density of states with temperature dependent renormalized parameters.

Using a four-band Hamiltonian, we study the phase boundary of spin-polarized-current state (SPCS) of interacting electrons in bilayer graphene. The model of spin-polarized-current state has previously been shown to resolve a number of experimental pu zzles in bilayer graphene. The phase boundaries of the SPCS with and without the external voltage between the two layers are obtained in this work. An unusual phase boundary where there are two transition temperatures for a given carrier concentration is found at finite external voltage. The physics of this phenomenon is explained.
The tunneling conductance is calculated as a function of the gate voltage in wide temperature range for the single quantum dot systems with Coulomb interaction. We assume that two orbitals are active for the tunneling process. We show that the Kondo temperature for each orbital channel can be largely different. The tunneling through the Kondo resonance almost fully develops in the region $T lsim 0.1 T_{K}^{*} sim 0.2 T_{K}^{*}$, where $T_{K}^{*}$ is the lowest Kondo temperature when the gate voltage is varied. At high temperatures the conductance changes to the usual Coulomb oscillations type. In the intermediate temperature region, the degree of the coherency of each orbital channel is different, so strange behaviors of the conductance can appear. For example, the conductance once increases and then decreases with temperature decreasing when it is suppressed at T=0 by the interference cancellation between different channels. The interaction effects in the quantum dot systems lead the sensitivities of the conductance to the temperature and to the gate voltage.
