Comparing high-resolution specific heat and thermal expansion measurements to exact finite-size diagonalization, we demonstrate that Cs$_2$CoCl$_4$ for a magnetic field along the crystallographic b axis realizes the spin-$frac{1}{2}$ XXZ chain in a transverse field. Exploiting both thermal as well as virtual excitations of higher crystal field states, we find that the spin chain is in the XY-limit with an anisotropy $J_z/J_perp approx 0.12$ substantially smaller than previously believed. A spin-flop Ising quantum phase transition occurs at a critical field of $mu_0 H_b^{rm cr} approx 2$ T before around 3.5 T the description in terms of an effective spin-$frac{1}{2}$ chain becomes inapplicable.

In this study the magnetic order of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain system Cs$_2$CoCl$_4$ in a temperature range from 50 mK to 0.5 K and in applied magnetic fields up to 3.5 T is investigated by high-resolution measurements of the thermal expansion and the sp ecific heat. Applying magnetic fields along a or c suppresses $T_textrm{N}$ completely at about 2.1 T. In addition, we find an adjacent intermediate phase before the magnetization saturates close to 2.5 T. For magnetic fields applied along b, a surprisingly rich phase diagram arises. Two additional transitions are observed at critical fields $mu_0 H_{SF1}simeq 0.25$ T and $mu_0 H_{SF2}simeq 0.7$ T, which we propose to arise from a two-stage spin-flop transition.
We report on high-field electron spin resonance (ESR) studies of magnetic excitations in the spin-1/2 triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$. Frequency-field diagrams of ESR excitations are measured for different orientations of magnetic f ields up to 25 T. We show that the substantial zero-field energy gap, $Deltaapprox9.5$ K, observed in the low-temperature excitation spectrum of Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ [Zvyagin $et~al.$, Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 077206 (2014)], is present well above $T_N$. Noticeably, the transition into the long-range magnetically ordered phase does not significantly affect the size of the gap, suggesting that even below $T_N$ the high-energy spin dynamics in Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ is determined by short-range-order spin correlations. The experimental data are compared with results of model spin-wave-theory calculations for spin-1/2 triangle-lattice antiferromagnet.
Under a perfect periodic potential, the electric current density induced by a constant electric field may exhibit nontrivial oscillations, so-called Bloch oscillations, with an amplitude that remains nonzero in the large system size limit. Such oscil lations have been well studied for nearly noninteracting particles and observed in experiments. In this work, we revisit Bloch oscillations in strongly interacting systems. By analyzing the spin-1/2 XXZ chain, which can be mapped to a model of spinless electrons, we demonstrate that the current density at special values of the anisotropy parameter $Delta=-cos(pi/p)$ ($p=3,4,5,cdots$) in the ferromagnetic gapless regime behaves qualitatively the same as in the noninteracting case ($Delta=0$) even in the weak electric field limit. When $Delta$ deviates from these values, the amplitude of the oscillation under a weak electric field is suppressed by a factor of the system size. We estimate the strength of the electric field required to observe such a behavior using the Landau--Zener formula.
We consider an alternating Heisenberg spin-$1/2$ antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic ($AF-F$) chain with the space modulated dominant antiferromagnetic exchange and anisotropic ferromagnetic coupling (tetrameric spin-$1/2$ chain). The zero-temperature ef fect of a symmetry breaking transverse magnetic field on the model is studied numerically. It is found that the anisotropy effect on the ferromagnetic coupling induces two new gapped phases. We identified their orderings as a kind of the stripe-antiferromagnetic phase. As a result, the magnetic phase diagram of the tetrameric chain shows five gapped quantum phases and the system is characterized by four critical fields which mark quantum phase transitions in the ground state of the system with the changing transverse magnetic field. We have also exploited the well known bipartite entanglement (name as concurrence) and global entanglement tools to verify the occurrence of quantum phase transitions and the corresponding critical points.

We present a temperature and magnetic field dependence study of spin transport and magnetothermal corrections to the thermal conductivity in the spin S = 1/2 integrable easy-plane regime Heisenberg chain, extending an earlier analysis based on the Be the ansatz method. We critically discuss the low temperature, weak magnetic field behavior, the effect of magnetothermal corrections in the vicinity of the critical field and their role in recent thermal conductivity experiments in 1D quantum magnets.
