BiTeI is a giant Rashba spin splitting system, in which a non-centro symmetric topological phase has recently been suggested to appear under high pressure. We investigated the optical properties of this compound, reflectivity and transmission, under pressures up to $15$ GPa. The gap feature in the optical conductivity vanishes above $p sim 9$ GPa and does not reappear up to at least $15$ GPa. The plasma edge, associated with intrinsically doped charge carriers, is smeared out through a phase transition at $9$ GPa. Using high pressure Raman spectroscopy, we follow the vibrational modes of BiTeI, providing additional clear evidence that the transition at 9 GPa involves a change of crystal structure. This change of crystal structure possibly inhibits the high-pressure topological phase from occurring.
Based on the unbiased structure prediction, we showed that the stable form of NiSi compound under the pressure of 100 and 200 GPa is the Pmmn-structure. Furthermore, we discovered a new stable phase - the deformed tetragonal CsCl-type structure with
To elucidate an origin of the two energy gaps in the narrow-gap semiconductor FeSb2, we have investigated the effects of hydrostatic pressure on the resistivity, Hall resistance and magnetoresistance at low temperatures. The larger energy gap evaluat
We use the cell model to justify the use of a lattice model to study the ideal glass transition. Based on empirical evidence and several previous exact calculations, we hypothesize that there exists an energy gap between the lowest possible energy of
Experimental studies established that calcium undergoes several counterintuitive transitions under pressure: fcc rightarrow bcc rightarrow simple cubic rightarrow Ca-IV rightarrow Ca-V, and becomes a good superconductor in the simple cubic and higher
The effects of high pressure on the crystal structure of orthorhombic (Pnma) perovskite type cerium scandate have been studied in situ under high pressure by means of synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction, using a diamond anvil cell. We have found tha
