A method to estimate efficiency of event start time determination at BESIII is developed. This method estimates the efficiency at the event level by combining the efficiencies of various tracks ($e$, $mu$, $pi$, K, $p$, $gamma$) in a Bayesian way. Efficiencies results and difference between data and MC at the track level are presented in this paper. For a given physics channel, event start time efficiency and systematic error can be estimated following this method.

The results of a full simulation of an endcap Time-of-Flight detector upgrade based on multigap resistive plate chambers for the BESIII experiment are presented. The simulation and reconstruction software is based on Geant4 and has been implemented i nto the BESIII Offline Software System. The results of the simulations are compared with beam test results and it is shown that a total time resolution $sigma$ of about 80 ps can be achieved allowing for a pion and kaon separation up to momenta of 1.4 GeV/c at a 95% confidence level.
BESIII is a currently running tau-charm factory with the largest samples of on threshold charm meson pairs, directly produced charmonia and some other unique datasets at BEPCII collider. Machine learning techniques have been employed to improve the p erformance of BESIII software. The studies for reweighing MC, particle identification and cluster reconstruction for the CGEM (Cylindrical Gas Electron Multiplier) inner tracker are presented.
Simulations of photon propagation in scintillation detectors were performed with the aim to find the optimal scintillator geometry, surface treatment, and shape of external reflector in order to achieve maximum light collection efficiency for detecto r configurations that avoid direct optical coupling, a situation that is commonly found in cryogenic scintillating bolometers in experimental searches for double beta decay and dark matter. To evaluate the light collection efficiency of various geometrical configurations we used the ZEMAX ray-tracing software. It was found that scintillators in the shape of a triangular prism with an external mirror shaped as truncated cone gives the highest light collection efficiency. The results of the simulations were confirmed by carrying out measurements of the light collection efficiencies of CaWO4 crystal scintillators. A comparison of simulated and measured values of light output shows good agreement

A GEANT4-based simulation is developed for the endcap time of flight (ETOF) upgrade based on multi-gap resistive plate chambers (MRPC) for the BESIII experiment. The MRPC prototype and the simulation method are described. Using a full Monte-Carlo sim ulation, the influence of high voltage and threshold on time resolution and detection efficiency are investigated. The preliminary results from simulation are presented and are compared with the experimental data taken with the prototype MRPC modules.
The upgrade of the current BESIII Endcap TOF (ETOF) is carried out with the Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) technology. The installation of the new ETOF has been finished in October 2015. The first results of the MRPCs commissioning at BESIII are reported in this paper.
