We have calculated the total energy of the helium atom in higher excited state. The Coulomb and exchange integrals are evaluated via spherical harmonics. The interaction of the magnetic moments of the electrons between them and also with the magnetic moments of the nucleus was taken into account through a cosine term in the Coulomb potential. The obtained results are in agreement with experimental data.

In a recent paper (Chabrier et al. 2019), we have derived a new equation of state (EOS) for dense hydrogen/helium mixtures which covers the temperature-density domain from solar-type stars to brown dwarfs and gaseous planets. This EOS is based on the so-called additive volume law and thus does not take into account the interactions between the hydrogen and helium species. In the present paper, we go beyond these calculations by taking into account H/He interactions, derived from quantum molecular dynamics simulations. These interactions, which eventually lead to H/He phase separation, become important at low temperature and high density, in the domain of brown dwarfs and giant planets. The tables of this new EOS are made publicly available.

In this work we present a model for the determination of the interaction energy for triplet and singlet states in atoms with incomplete filled shells. Our model includes the modification of the Coulombs law by the interaction between the magnetic mom ents of the electrons and a Heisenberg term. We find that the energy of the triplet state is lower than the energy of the singlet state. We calculate the interaction energy between the electrons from the adjacent atoms in fcc and bcc lattices and we find that the minimum interaction energy is attained for the triplet state. The result is presented for the interaction between the electrons of the first coordination group. The interaction energy which aligns the spins is used to evaluate the Curie temperature in a mean field model. Compared to previous models, our simple model fits the experimental data.

This report addresses the moments, ${mathfrak{G}_n}left( {mathbf{q}} right) = int_{ - infty }^{ + infty } {{omega ^n}Sleft( {{mathbf{q}},omega } right)mathrm{d}omega },,n in mathbb{N},,n geq - 1$, of the quantum mechanical dynamic structure factor $S left( {{mathbf{q}},omega } right)$ for a one-component Coulomb plasma in thermodynamic equilibrium. The Fluctuation Dissipation Theorem relates these moments to integrals involving the imaginary part of the inverse longitudinal dielectric function, with the odd moments in particular being equivalent to the odd moments of the imaginary part of the inverse dielectric function. Application of the Generalized Plasmon Pole Approximation arXiv:1508.05606 [physics.plasm-ph] to a weakly-coupled non-degenerate plasma, leads to general formulae expressed in terms of polynomial functions. Explicit forms of these functions are given for $n leq 20$. These formulae are generalized to degenerate and partially degenerate plasmas, in small-$mathbf{q}$ (long-wavelength) regimes.

We describe a numerical method that simulates the interaction of the helium atom with sequences of femtosecond and attosecond light pulses. The method, which is based on the close-coupling expansion of the electronic configuration space in a B-spline bipolar spherical harmonic basis, can accurately reproduce the excitation and single ionization of the atom, within the electrostatic approximation. The time dependent Schrodinger equation is integrated with a sequence of second-order split-exponential unitary propagators. The asymptotic channel-, energy- and angularly-resolved photoelectron distributions are computed by projecting the wavepacket at the end of the simulation on the multichannel scattering states of the atom, which are separately computed within the same close-coupling basis. This method is applied to simulate the pump-probe ionization of helium in the vicinity of the $2s/2p$ excitation threshold of the He$^+$ ion. This work confirms the qualitative conclusions of one of our earliest publications [L Argenti and E Lindroth, Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 105}, 53002 (2010)], in which we demonstrated the control of the $2s/2p$ ionization branching-ratio. Here, we take those calculations to convergence and show how correlation brings the periodic modulation of the branching ratios in almost phase opposition. The residual total ionization probability to the $2s+2p$ channels is dominated by the beating between the $sp_{2,3}^+$ and the $sp_{2,4}^+$ doubly excited states, which is consistent with the modulation of the complementary signal in the $1s$ channel, measured in 2010 by Chang and co-workers~[S Gilbertson~emph{et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 105}, 263003 (2010)].
Causal inference with observational data can be performed under an assumption of no unobserved confounders (unconfoundedness assumption). There is, however, seldom clear subject-matter or empirical evidence for such an assumption. We therefore develo p uncertainty intervals for average causal effects based on outcome regression estimators and doubly robust estimators, which provide inference taking into account both sampling variability and uncertainty due to unobserved confounders. In contrast with sampling variation, uncertainty due unobserved confounding does not decrease with increasing sample size. The intervals introduced are obtained by deriving the bias of the estimators due to unobserved confounders. We are thus also able to contrast the size of the bias due to violation of the unconfoundedness assumption, with bias due to misspecification of the models used to explain potential outcomes. This is illustrated through numerical experiments where bias due to moderate unobserved confounding dominates misspecification bias for typical situations in terms of sample size and modeling assumptions. We also study the empirical coverage of the uncertainty intervals introduced and apply the results to a study of the effect of regular food intake on health. An R-package implementing the inference proposed is available.
