We demonstrate a total charge parity measurement by detecting the radio frequency signal that is reflected by a lumped element resonator coupled to a single InAs nanowire double quantum dot. The high frequency response of the circuit is used to probe the effects of the Pauli exclusion principle at interdot charge transitions. Even parity charge transitions show a striking magnetic field dependence that is due to a singlet-triplet transition, while odd parity transitions are relatively insensitive to magnetic field. The measured response agrees well with cavity input-output theory, allowing accurate measurements of the interdot tunnel coupling and the resonator-charge coupling rate g_c/2pi ~ 17 MHz.

We study a Cooper-pair transistor realized by two Josephson weak links that enclose a superconducting island in an InSb-Al hybrid nanowire. When the nanowire is subject to a magnetic field, isolated subgap levels arise in the superconducting island a nd, due to the Coulomb blockade, mediate a supercurrent by coherent co-tunneling of Cooper pairs. We show that the supercurrent resulting from such co-tunneling events exhibits, for low to moderate magnetic fields, a phase offset that discriminates even and odd charge ground states on the superconducting island. Notably, this phase offset persists when a subgap state approaches zero energy and, based on theoretical considerations, permits parity measurements of subgap states by supercurrent interferometry. Such supercurrent parity measurements could, in a new series of experiments, provide an alternative approach for manipulating and protecting quantum information stored in the isolated subgap levels of superconducting islands.
We report on charge sensing measurements of a GaAs semiconductor quantum dot device using a radio frequency quantum point contact (rf-QPC). The rf-QPC is fully characterized at 4 K and milli-Kelvin temperatures and found to have a bandwidth exceeding 20 MHz. For single-shot charge sensing we achieve a charge sensitivity of 2x10^-4 e/(sqrt)Hz referred to the neighboring dots charge. The rf-QPC compares favorably with rf-SET electrometers and promises to be an extremely useful tool for characterizing and measuring semiconductor quantum systems on fast timescales.
Generating on-demand maximally entangled states is one of the corner stones for quantum information processing. Parity measurements can serve to create Bell states and have been implemented via an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer among others. However, the entanglement generation is necessarily harmed by measurement induced dephasing processes in one of the two parity subspace. In this work, we propose two different schemes of continuous feedback for a parity measurement. They enable us to avoid both the measurement-induced dephasing process and the experimentally unavoidable dephasing, e.g. due to fluctuations of the gate voltages controlling the initialization of the qubits. We show that we can generate maximally entangled steady states in both parity subspaces. Importantly, the measurement scheme we propose is valid for implementation of parity measurements with feedback loops in various solid-state environments.
Spin qubits in silicon quantum dots offer a promising platform for a quantum computer as they have a long coherence time and scalability. The charge sensing technique plays an essential role in reading out the spin qubit as well as tuning the device parameters and therefore its performance in terms of measurement bandwidth and sensitivity is an important factor in spin qubit experiments. Here we demonstrate fast and sensitive charge sensing by a radio-frequency reflectometry of an undoped, accumulation-mode Si/SiGe double quantum dot. We show that the large parasitic capacitance in typical accumulation-mode gate geometries impedes reflectometry measurements. We present a gate geometry that significantly reduces the parasitic capacitance and enables fast single-shot readout. The technique allows us to distinguish between the singly- and doubly-occupied two-electron states under the Pauli spin blockade condition in an integration time of 0.8 {mu}s, the shortest value ever reported in silicon, by the signal-to-noise ratio of 6. These results provide a guideline for designing silicon spin qubit devices suitable for the fast and high-fidelity readout.
We evaluate the rates of energy and phase relaxation of a superconducting qubit caused by stray photons with energy exceeding the threshold for breaking a Cooper pair. All channels of relaxation within this mechanism are associated with the change in the charge parity of the qubit, enabling the separation of the photon-assisted processes from other contributions to the relaxation rates. Among the signatures of the new mechanism is the same order of rates of the transitions in which a qubit looses or gains energy.
