We consider the spherical model on a spider-web graph. This graph is effectively infinite-dimensional, similar to the Bethe lattice, but has loops. We show that these lead to non-trivial corrections to the simple mean-field behavior. We first determine all normal modes of the coupled springs problem on this graph, using its large symmetry group. In the thermodynamic limit, the spectrum is a set of $delta$-functions, and all the modes are localized. The fractional number of modes with frequency less than $omega$ varies as $exp (-C/omega)$ for $omega$ tending to zero, where $C$ is a constant. For an unbiased random walk on the vertices of this graph, this implies that the probability of return to the origin at time $t$ varies as $exp(- C t^{1/3})$, for large $t$, where $C$ is a constant. For the spherical model, we show that while the critical exponents take the values expected from the mean-field theory, the free-energy per site at temperature $T$, near and above the critical temperature $T_c$, also has an essential singularity of the type $exp[ -K {(T - T_c)}^{-1/2}]$.

We study the dynamics of the N-particle system evolving in the XY hamiltonian mean field (HMF) model for a repulsive potential, when no phase transition occurs. Starting from a homogeneous distribution, particles evolve in a mean field created by the interaction with all others. This interaction does not change the homogeneous state of the system, and particle motion is approximately ballistic with small corrections. For initial particle data approaching a waterbag, it is explicitly proved that corrections to the ballistic velocities are in the form of independent brownian noises over a time scale diverging not slower than $N^{2/5}$ as $N to infty$, which proves the propagation of molecular chaos. Molecular dynamics simulations of the XY-HMF model confirm our analytical findings.

A technique allowing for a perturbative treatment of nonlocal corrections to the single-site dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) in finite dimensions is developed. It is based on the observation that in the case of strong electron correlation the one- electron Greens function is strongly spatially damped so that its intersite matrix elements may be considered as small perturbations. Because the non-local corrections are at least quadratic in these matrix elements, DMFT in such cases may be a very accurate approximation in dimensions d = 1-3. This observation provides a rigorous justification for the application of DMFT to physical systems. Furthermore, the technique allows for a systematic evaluation of the nonlocal corrections. This is illustrated with the calculation of the magnetic short range order parameter for nearest neighbor spins in the half filled Hubbard model on the square lattice in its insulating phase which exhibits an excellent agreement with the results of a recent cluster approach. As a second example we study the lowest order correction to the DMFT self-energy and its influence on the local density of states.

An exact solution of nuclear spherical mean-field plus orbit-dependent non-separable pairing model with two non-degenerate j-orbits is presented. The extended one-variable Heine-Stieltjes polynomials associated to the Bethe ansatz equations of the so lution are determined, of which the sets of the zeros give the solution of the model, and can be determined relatively easily. A comparison of the solution to that of the standard pairing interaction with constant interaction strength among pairs in any orbit is made. It is shown that the overlaps of eigenstates of the model with those of the standard pairing model are always large, especially for the ground and the first excited state. However, the quantum phase crossover in the non-separable pairing model cannot be accounted for by the standard pairing interaction.
Corrections to scaling in the 3D Ising model are studied based on non-perturbative analytical arguments and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation data for different lattice sizes L. Analytical arguments show the existence of corrections with the exponent (gamm a-1)/nu (approximately 0.38), the leading correction-to-scaling exponent being omega =< (gamma-1)/nu. A numerical estimation of omega from the susceptibility data within 40 =< L =< 2048 yields omega=0.25(33). It is consistent with the statement omega =< (gamma-1)/nu, as well as with the value omega = 1/8 of the GFD theory. We reconsider the MC estimation of omega from smaller lattice sizes to show that it does not lead to conclusive results, since the obtained values of omega depend on the particular method chosen. In particular, estimates ranging from omega =1.274(72) to omega=0.18(37) are obtained by four different finite-size scaling methods, using MC data for thermodynamic average quantities, as well as for partition function zeros. We discuss the influence of omega on the estimation of exponents eta and nu.
Although the fully connected Ising model does not have a length scale, we show that its critical exponents can be found using finite size scaling with the scaling variable equal to N, the number of spins. We find that at the critical temperature of t he infinite system the mean value and the most probable value of the magnetization scale differently with N, and the probability distribution of the magnetization is not a Gaussian, even for large N. Similar results inconsistent with the usual understanding of mean-field theory are found at the spinodal. We relate these results to the breakdown of hyperscaling and show how hyperscaling can be restored by increasing N while holding the Ginzburg parameter rather than the temperature fixed.
