The Sagdeev pseudopotential method is used to investigate the occurrence and the dynamics of fully nonlinear electrostatic solitary structures in a plasma containing suprathermal hot electrons, in the presence of massive charged dust particles in the background. The soliton existence domain is delineated, and its parametric dependence on different physical parameters is clarified.

We investigate the existence conditions and propagation properties of electron-acoustic solitary waves in a plasma consisting of an electron beam fluid, a cold electron fluid, and a hot suprathermal electron component modeled by a $kappa$-distributio n function. The Sagdeev pseudopotential method was used to investigate the occurrence of stationary-profile solitary waves. We have determined how the soliton characteristics depend on the electron beam parameters. It is found that the existence domain for solitons becomes narrower with an increase in the suprathermality of hot electrons, increasing the beam speed, and decreasing the beam-to-cold electron population ratio.

The problem of beam propagation in a plasma with small scale and low intensity inhomogeneities is investigated. It is shown that the electron beam propagates in a plasma as a beam-plasma structure and is a source of Langmuir waves. The plasma inhomog eneity changes the spatial distribution of the waves. The spatial distribution of the waves is fully determined by the distribution of plasma inhomogeneities. The possible applications to the theory of radio emission associated with electron beams are discussed.

Dynamics of an spatially limited electron beam in the inhomogeneous solar corona plasma is considered in the framework of weak turbulence theory when the temperature of the beam significantly exceeds that of surrounding plasma. The numerical solution of kinetic equations manifests that generally the beam accompanied by Langmuir waves propagates as a beam-plasma structure with a decreasing velocity. Unlike the uniform plasma case the structure propagates with the energy losses in the form of Langmuir waves. The results obtained are compared with the results of observations of type III bursts. It is shown that the deceleration of type III sources can be explained by the corona inhomogeneity. The frequency drift rates of the type III sources are found in a good agreement with the numerical results of beam dynamics.
We propose a new acceleration mechanism for charged particles by using cylindrical or spherical non-linear acoustic waves propagating in ion-electron plasma. The acoustic wave, which is described by the cylindrical or spherical Kortweg-de Vries equat ion, grows in its wave height as the wave shrinks to the center. Charged particles confined by the electric potential accompanied with the shrinking wave get energy by repetition of reflections. We obtain power law spectrums of energy for accelerated particles. As an application, we discuss briefly that high energy particles coming from the Sun are produced by the present mechanism.
Pinned solitons are a special class of nonlinear solutions created by a supersonically moving object in a fluid. They move with the same velocity as the moving object and thereby remain pinned to the object. A well known hydrodynamical phenomenon, th ey have been shown to exist in numerical simulation studies but to date have not been observed experimentally in a plasma. In this paper we report the first experimental excitation of pinned solitons in a dusty (complex) plasma flowing over a charged obstacle. The experiments are performed in a {Pi} shaped Dusty Plasma Experimental (DPEx) device in which a dusty plasma is created in the background of a DC glow discharge Ar plasma using micron sized kaolin dust particles. A biased copper wire creates a potential structure that acts as a stationary charged object over which the dust fluid is made to flow at a highly supersonic speed. Under appropriate conditions nonlinear stationary structures are observed in the laboratory frame that correspond to pinned structures moving with the speed of the obstacle in the frame of the moving fluid. A systematic study is made of the propagation characteristics of these solitons by carefully tuning the flow velocity of the dust fluid by changing the height of the potential structure. It is found that the nature of the pinned solitons changes from a single humped one to a multi-humped one and their amplitudes increase with an increase of the flow velocity of the dust fluid. The experimental findings are then qualitatively compared with the numerical solutions of a model forced Korteweg de Vries (fKdV) equation.
