We present a theory to model carrier mediated ferromagnetism in concentrated or diluted local moment systems. The electronic subsystem of the Kondo lattice model is described by a combined equation of motion / coherent potential approximation method. Doing this we can calculate the free energy of the system and its minimum according to the magnetization of the local moments. Thus also the Curie temperature can be determined and its dependence on important model parameters. We get qualitative agreement with the Curie temperatures experimental values of Ga$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$As for a proper hole density.

We propose two-dimensional (2D) Ising-type ferromagnetic semiconductors TcSiTe3, TcGeSe3, and TcGeTe3 with high Curie temperatures around 200-0500 K. Owing to large spin-orbit couplings, the large magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE), large ano malous Hall conductivity, and large magneto-optical Kerr effect were discovered in these intriguing 2D materials. By comparing all possible 2D MGeTe3 materials (M = 3d, 4d, 5d transition metals), we found a large orbital moment around 0.5 $mu$B per atom and a large MAE for TcGeTe3. The large orbital moments are revealed to be from the comparable crystal fields and electron correlations in these Tc-based 2D materials. The microscopic mechanism of the high Curie temperature is also addressed. Our findings reveal the unique magnetic behaviors of 2D Tc-based materials and present a family of 2D ferromagnetic semiconductors with large MAE and Kerr rotation angles that would have wide applications in designing spintronic devices.
We formulate a complete microscopic theory of a coupled pair of bound magnetic polarons, the bound-magnetic-polaron molecule (BMPM) in a diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) by taking into account both a proper two-body nature of the impurity-electro n wave function and within the general spin-rotation-invariant approach to the electronic states. We also take into account both the Heisenberg and the antiferromagnetic kinetic-exchange interactions, as well as the ferromagnetic coupling within the common spin BMPM cloud. The thermodynamic fluctuations of the spin cloud within the polaron effective Bohr radius of each polaron are taken as Gaussian.
We present a novel pairing mechanism for electrons, mediated by magnons. These paired bound states are termed magnetic doublons. Applying numerically exact techniques (full diagonalization and the density-matrix renormalization group, DMRG) to the Ko ndo lattice model at strong exchange coupling $J$ for different fillings and magnetic configurations, we demonstrate that magnetic doublon excitations exist as composite objects with very weak dispersion. They are highly stable, support a novel inverse colossal magnetoresistance and potentially other effects.

The temperature ($T$) - magnetic field ($H$) phase diagram for the tetragonal layered compound CeSbSe, is determined from magnetization, specific heat, and electrical resistivity measurements. This system exhibits complex magnetic ordering at $T_{rm{ M}}$ $=$ 3 K and the application of a magnetic field results in a cascade of magnetically ordered states for $H$ $lesssim$ 1.8 T which are characterized by fractional integer size steps: i.e., a possible Devils staircase is observed. Electrical transport measurements show a weak temperature dependence and large residual resistivity which suggest a small charge carrier density and strong scattering from the $f$-moments. These features reveal Kondo lattice behavior where the $f$-moments are incompletely screened, resulting in a fine balanced magnetic interaction between different Ce neighbors that is mediated by the RKKY interaction. This produces the nearly degenerate magnetically ordered states that are accessed under an applied magnetic field.

We discuss the possibility of a Kondo like effect associated with H in metals resulting from the strong dependence of the H1s orbital radius on the occupation number. We demonstrate that such a strong breathing property of the orbital radius, which t ranslates directly into a strong occupation dependent hopping, results in the formation of local singlet-like bound states involving one electron on H and one on the surrounding metal orbitals. We also show that already at a mean field level an occupation dependent hopping integral leads to a substantial potential energy correction on hydrogen, and that the failure of LDA to incorporate this correction is probably responsible for the incorrect prediction of a metallic ground state for the YH3 switchable mirror compounds.
