ALICE is the dedicated heavy-ion experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The experiment has also a broad program of QCD measurements in proton-proton (pp) collisions, which have two-fold interest: the study of particle production at the highest energy frontier, and the definition of references for the corresponding measurements in the upcoming Pb-Pb run. We present the first results on the pseudorapidity and transverse-momentum dependence of charged particle production in pp collisions at LHC energies, on the anti-p/p ratio and on the Bose-Einstein particle correlations. As an outlook, we report on the status of the ongoing analyses for strangeness and heavy-flavour production measurements.

A precise measurement of the heavy-flavor production cross-sections in pp collisions is an essential baseline for the heavy-ion program. In addition it is a crucial test of pQCD models in the new energy regime at LHC. ALICE measures the muons from th e decay of charmonium resonances and from the semileptonic decay of heavy-flavored hadrons in its forward (-4.0 $<$ $eta$ $<$ -2.5) Muon Spectrometer. We discuss the status of the detector and present results of data taken in pp collisions at $sqrt{s}$=7 TeV.
The BaBar experiment and the PEP-II accelerator at SLAC started to take data on May 26, 1999. By the time of this conference, the recorded integrated luminosity was 20 fb^{-1}, of which 8 fb^{-1} were analyzed to provide a first set of physics result s. This talk reviews the first measurement of sin2beta and the study of B meson decays to charmonium modes and 2-body charmless decays.

We report on the first measurements of the LHCb experiment, as obtained from $pp$ collisions at $sqrt{s} = 0.9$ TeV and 7 TeV recorded using a minimum bias trigger. In particular measurements of the absolute $K^0_S$ production cross section at $sqrt{ s} = 0.9$ TeV and of the $bar{Lambda}/Lambda$ ratio both at $sqrt{s} = 0.9$ TeV and 7 TeV are discussed and preliminary results are presented.
The ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is optimized to study the properties of the hot, dense matter created in high energy nuclear collisions in order to improve our understanding of the properties of nuclear matter under extreme conditions. In 2009 the first proton beams were collided at the Large Hadron collider and since then data from proton-proton collisions at $sqrt{s}$ = 0.9, 2.36, 2.76, and 7 TeV have been taken. Results from pp collisions provide significant constraints on models. In particular, results on strange particles indicate that Monte Carlo generators still have considerable difficulty describing strangeness production. In 2010 the first lead nuclei were collided at $sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Results from Pb+Pb demonstrate suppression of particle production relative to that observed in pp collisions, consistent with expectations based on data available at lower energies.
Fluctuations of thermodynamic quantities are fundamental for the study of the QGP phase transition. The ALICE experiment is well suited for precise event-by-event measurements of various quantities. In this article, we review the capabilities of ALIC E to study the fluctuations of several key observables such as the net charge, the temperature, and the particle ratios. Among the observables related to correlations, we review the balance functions and the long range correlations.
