Arrays of Ni nanodots embedded in Nb superconducting films have been fabricated by sputtering and electron beam lithography techniques. The arrays are periodic triangular lattices of circular Ni dots arranged in a kagome-like pattern with broken reflection symmetry. Relevant behaviors are found in the vortex lattice dynamics : i) At values lower than the first integer matching field, several fractional matching fields are present when the vortex lattice moves parallel or perpendicular to the reflection symmetry axis of the array showing a clear anisotropic character in the magnetoresistance curves, ii) injecting an ac current perpendicular to the reflection symmetry axis of the array yields an unidirectional motion of the vortex lattice (ratchet effect) as a result of the interaction between the whole vortex lattice and the asymmetric lattice of dots, iii) increasing the input current amplitudes the ratchet effect changes polarity independently of matching field values. These experimental results can be explained taking into account the vortex lattice density.

We examine the current driven dynamics for vortices interacting with conformal crystal pinning arrays and compare to the dynamics of vortices driven over random pinning arrays. We find that the pinning is enhanced in the conformal arrays over a wide range of fields, consistent with previous results from flux gradient-driven simulations. At fields above this range, the effectiveness of the pinning in the moving vortex state can be enhanced in the random arrays compared to the conformal arrays, leading to crossing of the velocity-force curves.
The vortex dynamics in superconducting films deposited on top of a five-fold Penrose array of magnetic dots is studied by means of transport measurements. We show that in the low pinning regime (demagnetized dots) a few periodic and aperiodic matchin g features coexist. In the strong pinning regime (magnetized dots) a richer structure of unforeseen periodic and aperiodic vortex patterns appear giving rise to a clear enhancement of the critical current in a broader field range. Possible stable vortex configurations are determined by molecular dynamics simulations.
We study the dynamics of vortices in an asymmetric ring channel driven by an external current I in a Corbino setup. The asymmetric potential can rectify the motion of vortices and cause a net flow without any unbiased external drive, which is called ratchet effect. With an applied ac current, the potential can rectify the motion of vortices in the channel and induce a dc net flow. We show that the net flow of vortices strongly depends on vortex density and frequency of the driving current. Depending on the density, we distinguish a single-vortex rectification regime (low density) determined by the potential-energy landscape inside each cell of the channel (i.e., hard and easy directions of motion) and multi-vortex, or collective, rectification (high density) when the interaction between vortices becomes important. The frequency of the driving ac current determines a possible distance that a vortex could move during one period. For high frequency current, vortices only oscillate in the triangular cell. For low frequency, the vortex angular velocity $omega$ increases nearly linearly until the driving force reaches the maximum friction force in the hard direction. Furthermore, the commensurability between the number of vortices and the number of cells results in a stepwise $omega-I$ curve. Besides the integer steps, i.e., the large steps found in the single vortex case, we also found fractional steps corresponding to fractional ratio between the numbers of vortices and triangular cells. The principal and fractional frequencies for different currents are found, when the net flow of vortices reaches the maximum that is proportional to the frequency when the density of vortices is low. We have performed preliminary measurements on a device containing a single weak-pinning circular ratchet channel in a Corbino geometry and observed a substantial asymmetric vortex response.
We discuss pinning properties of MgB2 thin films grown by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) and by electron-beam (EB) evaporation. Two mechanisms are identified that contribute most effectively to the pinning of vortices in randomly oriented films. The E B process produces low defected crystallites with small grain size providing enhanced pinning at grain boundaries without degradation of Tc. The PLD process produces films with structural disorder on a scale less that the coherence length that further improves pinning, but also depresses Tc.

The magnetoresistivity and critical current density of well characterized Si-nanoparticle doped and undoped Cu-sheathed MgB$_{2}$ tapes have been measured at temperatures $Tgeq 28$ K in magnetic fields $Bleq 0.9$ T. The irreversibility line $B_{irr}( T)$ for doped tape shows a stepwise variation with a kink around 0.3 T. Such $B_{irr}(T)$ variation is typical for high-temperature superconductors with columnar defects (a kink occurs near the matching field $% B_{phi}$) and is very different from a smooth $B_{irr}(T)$ variation in undoped MgB$_{2}$ samples. The microstructure studies of nanoparticle doped MgB$_{2}$ samples show uniformly dispersed nanoprecipitates, which probably act as a correlated disorder. The observed difference between the field variations of the critical current density and pinning force density of the doped and undoped tape supports the above findings.
