In a previous paper, we discussed an original solution to improve the performances of coronagraphs by adding, in the optical scheme, an adaptive hologram removing most of the residual speckle starlight. In our simulations, the detection limit in the flux ratio between a host star and a very near planet (5 lambda/D) improves over a factor 1000 (resp. 10000) when equipped with a hologram for cases of wavefront bumpiness imperfections of lambda/20 (resp. lambda/100). We derive, in this paper, the transmission accuracy required on the hologram pixels to achieve such goals. We show that preliminary tests could be performed on the basis of existing technologies.

We present a comparison of our VLT/NACO K-band spectrum of the GQ Lupi companion with the new GAIA-dusty model atmosphere grid for T=2000 and 2900 K and log g from 0 to 4. Then, we discuss the mass estimate for GQ Lup companion.
Direct imaging of exo-Earths and search for life is one of the most exciting and challenging objectives for future space observatories. Segmented apertures in space will be required to reach the needed large diameters beyond the capabilities of curre nt or planned launch vehicles. These apertures present additional challenges for high-contrast coronagraphy, not only in terms of static phasing but also in terms of their stability. The Pair-based Analytical model for Segmented Telescope Imaging from Space (PASTIS) was developed to model the effects of segment-level optical aberrations on the final image contrast. In this paper, we extend the original PASTIS propagation model from a purely analytical to a semi-analytical method, in which we substitute the use of analytical images with numerically simulated images. The inversion of this model yields a set of orthonormal modes that can be used to determine segment-level wavefront tolerances. We present results in the case of segment-level piston error applied to the baseline coronagraph design of LUVOIR A, with minimum and maximum wavefront error constraint between 56 pm and 290 pm per segment. The analysis is readily generalizable to other segment-level aberrations modes, and can also be expanded to establish stability tolerances for these missions.
Several Extreme Adaptive Optics (XAO) systems dedicated to the detection and characterisation of the exoplanets are currently in operation for 8-10 meter class telescopes. Coronagraphs are commonly used in these facilities to reject the diffracted li ght of an observed star and enable direct imaging and spectroscopy of its circumstellar environment. SHARK-NIR is a coronagraphic camera that will be implemented at the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). After an extensive simulation campaign, SHARK-NIR team selected a suite of coronagraphic techniques to be implemented in the instrument in order to fulfil the scientific requirements. In summary, the Gaussian Lyot coronagraph is the option to serve all those science cases requiring field-stabilization and moderate contrast. Observations in pupil-stabilized mode to search for exoplanets can take advantage of three Shaped Pupil masks (SPC) and a Four-Quadrant Phase Mask (FQPM) coronagraph. The SPC are designed for high contrast on a small field close to the star and are robust to image and pupil jitter. The FQPM allows to access the entire scientific FoV (18x18) and delivers excellent performance in ideal conditions (high Strehl ratios), but performance is still good, both close and further away from the star, even at lower Strehl and with moderate vibrations. After the procurement phase, the coronagraphic masks were delivered to our labs and we started to test their performance on the optical bench and define the alignment procedures that will be employed in the final integration of the instrument in our cleaning room. In this article, we describe the tests that we performed in the lab with SHARK-NIR coronagraphs. We measured the contrast achievable with each technique in very-high Strehl conditions and defined the alignment-integration procedures.
Priorities in exo-planet research are rapidly moving from finding planets to characterizing their physical properties. Of key importance is their chemical composition, which feeds back into our understanding of planet formation. For the foreseeable f uture, far-ultraviolet spectroscopy of white dwarfs accreting planetary debris remains the only way to directly and accurately measure the bulk abundances of exo-planetary bodies. The exploitation of this method is limited by the sensitivity of HST, and significant progress will require a large-aperture space telescope with a high-throughput ultraviolet spectrograph.

Two upcoming large scale surveys, the ESA Gaia and LSST projects, will bring a new era in astronomy. The number of binary systems that will be observed and detected by these projects is enormous, estimations range from millions for Gaia to several te ns of millions for LSST. We review some tools that should be developed and also what can be gained from these missions on the subject of binaries and exoplanets from the astrometry, photometry, radial velocity and their alert systems.
