We have theoretically investigated the tunneling current induced by a terahertz (THz) field applied to an asymmetric double quantum well. The excitation couples an initially localized state to a nearby continuum of extended states. We have shown that the calculated current has similar features as those present in the optical spectra, such as interference effects due to the interaction between the continuum and the localized states, in addition to many-photon transition effects. The induced current is calculated as a function of the intensity of the THz field. A second THz field is used to yield non-linear processes, useful to control the interference effects. We believe that part of the issues studied here can be usefull for the integration of novel switching mechanisms based on optics (THz) and electronic current.
Coupling a quantum system to a bosonic environment always give rise to inelastic processes, which reduce the coherency of the system. We measure energy dependent rates for inelastic tunneling processes in a fully controllable two-level system of a do
We study the transport properties of a hybrid nanostructure composed of a ferromagnet, two quantum dots, and a superconductor connected in series. By using the non-equilibrium Greens function approach, we have calculated the electric current, the dif
In materials lacking inversion symmetry, the spin-orbit coupling enables the direct connection between the electrons spin and its linear momentum, a phenomenon called inverse spin galvanic effect. In magnetic materials, this effect promotes current-d
We study the heat current through two capacitively coupled quantum dots coupled in series with two conducting leads at different temperatures $T_L$ and $T_R$ in the spinless case (valid for a high applied magnetic field). Our results are also valid f
The magnetic moment of a quantum dot can be screened by its coupling to a superconducting reservoir, depending on the hierarchy of the superconducting gap and the relevant Kondo scale. This screening-unscreening transition can be driven by electrosta
